Seen the following car on ebay. From the pictures it looks quite tidy (particularly the interior - I always thought they faded and wore quite badly).

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I'd forgotten just how red they were !
Interior does look good.
Bonnet is a very poor fit as is o/side headlamp, I think I would want to view this car and check for signs of accident damage.
I find it a bit offputting that there is no mention of mileage ..... or of any service history.
Although vendor admits " .... the body work would benefit from some attention in places " - they have presumably shelled out cash to buy a "performance exhaust system". Funny priorities ?

If I had The Space I would Gamble and Buy within a Blink of an Eye...
The interior must be worth a few hundred if it's as Good as It Looks!
He Does say very good mechanically....and it has6mths MOT so at least it has had use over the Last year...
BUY IT!

I remember reading a 'Whats in your garage?' article in one of the Porsche magazines probably a year ago and a chap had a Martini in excellent mechanical/body condition but the interior was a bit threadbare. He had difficulty in tracking down this trim. This interior does look good!

I agree that the bonnet area does need some investigation.

I have asked the vendor for the mileage.

Will post again if bought.

If there's no accident damage i'de say 750 on the road is a good price.
The guy i bought mine off wanted 750 (no mot but does run) but settled for 450 which considering the work i have to do on the sills was fair.Interior seats are good on mine although faded but i've been told that they can be redyed by specialists.
If i didn't have mine i would have had a punt on this one.

This looks like a super projects. On this model bodywork condition is less important than interior or that commemerative plate.

However it shopuld be recognised that although rare this was NOT the best 924 ever made. They were rushed onto the market before all the bugs were ironed out including rust proofing and it will (should) have the 4 speed gearbox.

If you are after something rare, different and quirky.. Go for it.

If you want a daily driver then run a mile.

  • Unless the ignition has been turnd off with the rear wiper blade horizontal my guess would be that the rear wiper mechansim is broken, however early cars may have had horizontal park wipers. Then again, my 1978 lux never had a rear wiper, until I swopped it for the hatch from my dead 1983 model.
  • Also I thought that early cars had the word PORSCHE embossed in the top of the door trim ( aka door card)
  • If it had side repeaters at all they would have been orange.
  • The interior is in my opinion a retrim as the fabric hangs too loosely in the photos of the rear seats.
  • Be aware that the commemorative plaque is attached only to the centre console and could be transferred unscrupulously.
  • My biggest query lies with the misalignment of the headlight cover. At best this could be just a poorly fitted cover. You really need to have a look at the car in the metal.
I don't see or hear too many 924 enthusiasts raving about, or drooling over, the prospect of getting their hands on a 924 Martini so I would be wary of paying much of a premium for the rarity value of a this 924 as it is debatable if it is all original, and is not pristine. It is still a nice tidy car and with a current MOT should be worth a closer inspection, but never buy a 924 of this vintage without a look underneath.

For me, an avid enthusiast, who has driven a 924 in one forom or another for the last twenty years, and still do ( currently in the form of a 924 turbo for dialy commuting) £750 would be about the maximum I would pay, as good running 924s a couple of years newer would be available for the same money. Another £ 150 and you are into 924S money as our freind Geoff knows. Ultimately though the choice lies with the purchaser, and this is just my perspective.

The door cards on mine are plain without the embossed logo.
I believe it should have a non spoiler hatch too.
I have a bill in the service history with mine for a replacement hatch done in '87 - the price of the hatch was 956 quid!

I'd still buy it...after all my 88 S has Replaced Parts....
I didn't read that it's Concours!...Of course one must be weary but within reason..
£750........ a weeks wages! .........go on!

There are about 64 different door cards listed on PET, believe it or not. For example, The left hand door card LHD is different from the LH door car RHD as the left hand door has location for two window switches if the windows are electric. Add in the trim variations and the numbers soon mount up. As I had an 83 car without the embossed logo, and an 82 car with it, you can see why I asked if the door card should be embossed.

Also my annoyingly acute eyesight spots green characters on the centre gauges and white characters on the three big dials, is this correct?

My old 83 lux had embossed door cards.Wonder if embossed cards had an option code?

I would suspect a replacement instrumnt panel from an early '44 - they have yellow characters.

Tref.

The centre gauges are from a 924 turbo by the looks of it. If i didnt already have a full drive way i might have had a go at it as well. The martini is my favorite 924 ever, closely followed by a 2 tone beige 924 turbo !!

This was a car not previously known to the Register, but now at least I have the details of another early car [:)]
