924 on the Monte...

Although I usually lurk in the 964RS forum, I will put my hand up to owning a few 924 Turbos... (6 at last count... I know, blame EBAY... they were cheap...)

Anyway... for those interested, we just took the "Trusty Turbo" (thus named because she is yet to finish an event... Scottish irony of some sort I think) on the Historic Monte Carlo Rally...

I thoroughly enjoyed reading your stories and my word, yoda must know the inners of that nail now better than anyone on the planet- the fact it is running is a miracle but that it keep running is "using the force".

Some further 924 competitors on the monte:

They're fab Bert! Thanks for finding those!

As for the "old nail"... she's not got many parts left in her from your days... she's running the ex-works close ratio gearbox with LSD and she's on her 3rd engine, this one with works handmade intercooler in it... she's a sweetie, goes like a train... saw over 100mph at one point coming down the Col Du Turini!

The silver one shunted right in front of us on one of the stages... hence the tank tape... the others, we never saw!! So many cars (300+) that are 1min apart each... some of these guys are 3.5 hours ahead of us on the road! And some 2.5 hours behind!

Cheers

I love this shot.

With a 1984 Sierra in the background and B&W photo it could have been taken 28 years ago

Tell me more about the car, the 3 engines and gearbox work.

I have an engine in bits at the moment for rebuild and looking for any advice. Was hoping to reuse the 86.5mm pistons but they are too loose in the bores. A set of 87mm Mahle OEM pistons are £900 +VAT!!

Have few photos of your car arriving at the start in Clydebank and also in the car park area .
I have to say i was most disappointed in the amount of Monte cars that started from Glasgow so much so i did not wait till the start what a difference from the previous year
I went to the event last year 2011 and it was awash with cars parked up in George Sg where you could see the cars in close up even sit in them and speak with the drivers ,then up to Blythswood Sq to watch then all leave it was a great event , the last time the Monte left from Glasgow was in 1970s i was also at it .

Congrats, looks excellent fun. I still think you should enter the 360 MRC 6 hour race on 5/6 May - it would be ideal for your car & for a man with your experience.
