924 on unleaded

Hello Peter

Please dont take my word as gospel but i dont think you need any mods, i have 924S which runs fine, i know the 924 has a diferent power plant to the "S" but my sure that it will run fine, the model has done so in america, one or two people i have talked to use super unleaded for the octane rating but i dont think its an absolute requirment

Marc

Drive it like you love it [:)]

Thanks Marc

You support my view. I am sorry to say it is not my car but I will let the owner know to drive it like she loves it!

Thanks again

Pete

Germany have been well in advance of the UK in phasing out unleaded fuel, and I remember reading a long time ago that German engines had hard seats to cope with the unleaded fuel. If it does start to pink, move the distributor clockwise (when viewed from the top) a little at a time, until it stops. (unless it is a turbo, which is controlled by a flywheel sensor. There is a connector under the bonnet on the nearside which apparently does nothing, but if the teminals are shorted together it retards the ignition so that the car will run on lower grade fuel. With a compression ratio as high as the 924 has, I suggest using super unleaded, as the 924 will not be at its best if running on 95 octane.

I've had my 924 for about 18 months now, I've run it on unleaded from the start, it did pink slightly but I retarded the ignition timing from 10 degs to 7 degs and that stopped it. I also recently had the cylinder head off the engine, there was no signs of valve recession nor was there any abnormal burning of the valve seats or faces, mileage in 18 months is about 45,000 miles, so here is one example of the 924 running quite happily on unleaded fuel.

Hi Peter,

Have run my 924 for 3 years on super unleaded. No pinking and no other problems.
