924 Totalled in rear end shunt

Following an horrendous rear-end shunt which totalled her 924, Mac's daughter Lea escaped with back and knee pain, whiplash and a bruised and painful chest.
She was stationary at a junction, turning right into her own street and waiting for a car to pass coming in the opposite direction. The guy behind (probably speeding) either didn't see her or wasn't paying attention as he hit the 924 and shunted it 12 metres towards a Bus stop.
The rear seats catapulted forwards, severed the driver's seat and rammed it under the dashboard and the steering wheel and column finished up trapping her legs, with her foot still hard on the clutch and the engine still running. The rear hatch remained shut and the two doors still opened.Lea's husband Russell, (who had been alerted very quickly) managed to disconnect the battery as fuel was pouring from the split tank.
Lea was trapped inside the car, and it took the Fire Brigade
1 hour 40 minutes to cut her out. Incidentally they were unable to get the windscreen out and ended up having to cut the roof off anyway
This much loved 924 had been in our family since 1993, and it is very sad that it has been destroyed by the carelessness of someone else.
However we must be thankful that Lea is home from Hospital, and saved from more serious injury by Porsche engineering.

Hello macandsue - thank you for informing us of this.

First of all, we (The 924 Register) are glad Lea is relatively okay after what sounds like a horrific shunt. Please send our best regards and a full recovery to her.

Question: Did I understand you correctly, did the drivers seat mountings fail after being hit by the rear seats? That must have been a huge impact, but I'm a still a little surprised the seat came adrift, was it placed under undue stress in your opinion?

I hope the insurance companies sort the matter out speedily and ensure that Lea gets back on the road soon.

Thanks for your concern ,Lea is ok if a little sore ,highly annoyed to have had her car written off but relieved as we all are that she is relatively unscathed. The car has been taken away and as yet not really been properly inspected .We have only her description of what happened,we of course are 200 miles away and only have it third party. Lea is a sixfooter and was well and truly jammed in. I suspect that the hinged back broke away as the seat shot forward, however as soon as we have details we will let you know. The offending car was probably doing about 45 --50 mph, it was unrecognisable and totally destroyed by the impact, the driver was saved by his air bag and received only minor injuries. We will keep you posted.

Hi Sue and Mac
Glad to hear that Lea is OK - you must have been pretty worried when you first found out.
Best regards,

Hi Peter, Thanks for your concerns. Lea is feeling very sorry for herself today as every part of her body aches-- she even says it hurts to swallow.
Mac has calmed down , and feels more reassured now that he can speak to her regularly.
The good news is that the Police are considering prosecution against the other driver.
The bad news is that when the Insurance Companies have finished their investigations we will have to try to find another 924 as good as the one Lea has lost.

Hi Mac and Sue,

only just found this thread. sorry to hear of such an unfortunate incident and hope that your daughter has made a full recovery.

Regards,
