924 Track Day Car

Any 924 owners out there who use their cars for track days?

I've owned an '83 924 for four years now and this year have started tracking it. Strong recon engine (purchased from Lodge Sports), set of Comp MO wheels (pretty much standard 924 race spec I gather) with 205/50 tyres has been the only money spent on the my car all year.

However having done Rockingham this weekend I have discovered a couple of areas that need attention - brakes and suspension - nothing important! I guess Rockingham emphasised these areas due to the tight infield and the way you have to brake down off the "banked" section into an essentially 180degree left.

Has anyone upgraded brakes and suspension for such use? If they have what success have you had? I like to use the car daily too so I'm not looking to compromise it too much.

If you haven't ever used your cars for track days then go on - it's great! You could never safely explore what this great handling little car can do without trying on a circuit.

Pretty much the standard thing to do with a NA 924 is to fit Leda suspension. It's a very easy fit, and while having some adjustment it's not too complicated that you would get lost.

Brakes wise, the first step would be to change the material. A simple change to Mintex 1144 on the front would give huge reward, and on the rear there is a special compound available. I guess the guys at Lodge will know exactly where to source these parts from. A more dramatic change on the braking front would be to fit 924 turbo equipment. Say goodbye to those drums [:)], and your 4 stud wheels though [:(].

Many thanks for the advice.

I'm planning on attacking the brakes first with the Mintex pads as you recommend aswell as some braided hoses. I've since been advised to perhaps remove the tin back plates and try ducting some air to the front discs but I think I'll see how the pads/hose upgrades go first.

That is once I get the car back - Citroen Zantia has removed the front of my car since my posting[:(]
