924S for sale in Scotland

1986 Porsche 924S 2.5 manual in Guards Red. Can is in good original condition with all matching numbers and covered 94K miles with some history. Below is an accurate description of the car as I don't want to waste anyones time.

In good solid condition with a strong engine and gearbox. As any 924/944 enthusiast would expect, there is a slight whine from the gearbox but it is only very slight. The belts and tensioners were changed just over 4000 miles ago however this was a few years back as the car is little used. I have also fitted a new stainless steel rear box on the exhaust (Dansk Item). This particular 924s does not have PAS or ESR.

The car has also just had new front sections to the breakpipes and has had the rear brakes cleaned and reconditioned. MOT till October 2005 and TAX till March 2005.
Paintwork is in generally good condition bearing in mind the 18 yr age of the car. There are the usual stone chips at the nose, a small scratch on the drivers rear corner (where the hatch closes) and the rear hatch slam panel is showing signs of its age and would benefit from a tidy up as it has a small area of rust on the number plate light surround (it is original and still shows the original "option sticker on the inbside of the panel). The roof shows signs of over enthusiastic use of a roof rack with some slight dimpling.

Interior is Black pinstripe in excellent condition and completely original. There are 2 or 3 very small cracks in the dash top but no tears/stiching wear at all in the seats. It has a sony radio cassette and all parts of the original cassette holder are present. The roller blind in the rear hatch has one of the clips missing but is in good order and does cover the boot area as designed.

To sum it up - this is a very presentable, useable example of this great drivers car. It is not a concours winner, these cars were made to be driven as well as polished!

To be honest I am not sure how much to ask for the car so I'll start by saying "Offers". Please contact me if you have any specific questions.

Hi All

I have been offered £1,350 as a result of a posting on e-bay. I think that it is a bit low and wondered what you all think.

Given the description do you think this is a fair value for the car?

Thanks

Andy

I'd think you should be looking above £2k for a presentable one. They all have minor niggles, but if it is generally sound it should fetch £2,000 - £2,750 depending upon state of paintwork, body, interior and engine.

A reasonable 'S' won't be below £2k.

(......got to make sure I keep the value of my one up so don't sell it cheap....[:)] ... or let me know if you're going to [:D])

Hi Phil

Thanks for your information - you have basically confirmed what i though. E-bay seems to be populated by those looking for a "cheap" car rather than a good solid one.

Re "selling cheap" - that depends on your definition of Cheap [:D]. I am about to embark down the route of renewing insurance and we have a new baby due in 10 days time (scary!!) so I would take a "competitive" offer for the car.

Do you fancy making an offer?

Cheers

Andy

Sorry Andy, but you mustn't tempt me. I'm not looking to add to the stable yet.

Phil

As you know, being tempted is what these cars are about [:)]

The 924S represents my forth of the Porsche Marque but unfortunately the arrival of baby number two means that money, time and opportunity simply is'nt there to enjoy it as it was meant to be.[:(]

If anyone out there in 924 world fanices adding to their stable this is a good, solid, useable example.

Take care

Andy

There is a 924S in Classic Cars this month, guards red for £4950,1986 model so don't sell yours too cheap.
Our first 924LUX,before the 924S was specifically bought to carry children in the rear because the previous MGB GT became too small for them.

Cheers,
Colin.

Hi Colin

Thanks for the info. The cars not a "minter" but I reckon that somewhere in the £2k region is a fair price for a good car.

I know what you mean on the space front - that's why I sold the 914 and bought the 924s but with two and a double buggy plus the missus...... I'm just not getting the chance to use it enough.

Take care
Andy

Hi all

Baby is due any day - literally - so my other baby is still looking for a good home.....

Best wishes for you and your new baby. [:)]
I'm sure the 924 will find a good home, but the rear seats are just the right size for young children and the boot big just enough for a double buggy so why not keep it? [;)]

Thanks Paul

Time was always the issue - the car has gone to a chap in Edinburgh who was looking for a good running project.

Fingers crossed it has found a good home.

As this was my 4th Prosche (Boxster, 911, 914, 924s) I dare say that I may well be backl on the forum with another member of the marque in the garage before too long.

Take care

Andy
