924S Gear Change

Today I test drove a 924S which I'm considering buying, it's done around 80,000 miles.

I had a slight problem with the gear change when engaging 3rd or 4th gears. On other 924s (Lux and S) I've driven the spring loading centres the gear lever to a position where it will slide straight in 3rd or 4th. On the car the gear lever needed a slight move to the left to go into gear. Once I get the knack of doing this I could getting the gear without any problem.

Has any else experienced a similar problem ?

Is this just a harmless idiosyncrasy of this car which will be forgotten once I've got the knack
or
something that can by solved by a linkage adjustment
or
is it a symptom of a more serious problem ?

the synchronmesh seemed OK,and there was no sign of vibration which might indicate a week offside engine mount caused a mis-alignment of the engine and thus cause the gear engagement problem.

Any thoughts ?

thanks

John
