I am having problems selecting gear. The gear lever has spring resistance on the right only. On the left it flops around, even when in gear. This means that I can only get 3rd, 4th, 5th and reverse gears. Even when I push it as far left as it will go, then forward, it engages 3rd gear. Any Ideas as to what could cause this ?
Thank you Chris

The 944 has a nylon bush unde the gear lever (where it mounts to torque tube) that wears and a bush at the rear above the transaxle that wears(the shaft passes through the transaxle - torque tube join and the linkage is the first bit once it cones out again), both will allow 'slop' to develop in the lever the front bush is IIRC a couple of quid from OPC the rear one is an assembly for around £80. The inner gear lever (under the leather and rubber) also wears around the horizontal pin, this is around £35 from OPC

I remember my lux (when not used for a while) would lose its 'spring' in neutral and become stiff spraying the joints in the linkages (above the transaxle) with a rubber lubricant or WD40 would return the springiness, I believe the spring itself is in the transaxle. You could have a combination of stiff rear linkages and floppy bushes, Other than these it could be a problem within the box itself - has it been noisy?
