924s help

Can anyone help? Have been looking for a 944 s2 for about 9 months. Have seen several but have had varying degrees of rust in sills. Started to look at 924S '86 onwards. Seem to be less rust prone. Is this a good alternative?
Second question is about turning it into a Carrera gt rep. Do I need to modify rear arches?
Who supplies best kit? Pro-9, EMC or other?
Would appreciate your advice/knowledge

Hi
Welcome to the community!
That S2 s appear to be more rust prone is a lot to do with the trims under the sills holding the water muck etc.
There is a very good one for sale if you look on the 944 forum here - well known and well looked after.
The best of the 924 S models are the very last year, which have the 160bhp engine of the 944, rather than the "detuned" 150bhp version.
If you search on here there are various threads about making Carrera GT reps, certainly from turbos if not S s
NB the search is not the best try fiddling with the search criteria.
My only reason for not having a 924 S is I just love the flared arches of the 944!
Hope thats some help and I'm sure that others will be along shortly.
Good luck

Cheers Mike. I agree about the flared arches, but a carrera rep has some appeal too. Thanks for the tip about the car for sale.
Huw.

Have you considered a 944 S3 - aka 968? Double galvanised, mine is 1994 and the only rust I've had was caused by a windscreen fitter - who hid the evidence under the seal so I know nothing about it until a year or 4 later! Guess what - I have a 968 coupe for sale (selling the coupe as I've bought myself a cabriolet, wish I could keep both!).

Thanks for suggestion. Sounds fantastic and would love to buy it, but I know I can't afford a 968. Good luck.

Will I regret a 924S over a 944, or are they a great starter Porsche? Would love feedback as I am going to see one on Friday and am keen to buy.

The later v160 bhp 924S is a little faster than the 150bhp car but I find that is not quite as smooth. I own one and have access to the other.
Both are faster than the 8valve 944. Thats why they went to the trouble of de tuning the earlier S. It was embarrasing to Porsche..

Why did I buy the 924S... Because I personally don't like the flared arches and thik the 924 is purer in form.
Everyone to his own.

Thanks, Geoff. Didn't realise 924 was faster than 944-lighter I guess. I shall go and look at the car on Friday. It sound like a 924S is better value than 944.

Huw, have you seen this one on eBay?

They are more aerodynamic with the thinner wings. Also set to run on the cheap 4 star. With the single skin sills you don't get the rust. I'm on my second which I'm reluctantly thinking of selling as I'm moving abroad and really need a LHD. It's a 1989. First registered 4/1/1989.
