924s idle speed adjustment

Can anyone help me with adjusting my '86 924S's tickover speed please? After cleaning the throttle body out with carb cleaner it now runs 400 rpm faster than it should do at idle. Haynes manuals just say take it to a specialist but i'm sure there's one or two around here somewhere!

This did work but as soon as i removed the link and restarted the engine it decided to move up to 1000rpm from the 800 it was set at before.

I can live with this i suppose but does this point to another problem elsewhere?

This is why i don't buy new school cars because they have a habit of bossing you around when you thought you were the one making the decisions, surprised to be getting this 'chain of command misunderstanding' with an 86 car!
 
Sounds like the ISV is opening up when it shouldnt. Did you have to make much of an adjustment to the idle throttle bypass?
 
I couldn't actually say because i took it out and cleaned both it and the hole it fits into with carb cleaner before carrying out the adjustment procedure, it's adjusted down to more or less a dead stop though which i thought was a bit unusual. The engine speed dips down to about 775-800 before coming back up to 1000 so i wondered about the ISV possibly malfunctioning.
Is there anything that can be done to check or improve the performance of the ISV?
 
You would need to find out if it is the ISV itself or the signal being sent to the ISV that is wrong. I'm afraid I dont know enough about how the system works to be able to tell you how to do either of those things.
