Hi all.

New 924S owner here and first foray into budget Porsche motoring!

Is a whiney diff bad or do they all do that? I've driven a few 944's previously and I can't recall if they did but the seller assures me it's a 9x4 charactersitic.

Cheers

Chris

Hello Chris Welcome to the forum and Porsche ownership. I've had my own 2 litre for just over 9 years now and have clocked up over 60,000 miles in my ownership taking me all over Britain and continental Europe. I love it [:)] My rear axle was a little whiney but soon after getting the car I had the (gearbox?) oil changed and now I don't notice any undue noise back there (or else I've got used to it) When I'm back home on Friday i will have a look at my database and see if I can find your car, but for now send me a PM and I'll send you a Register form for your car on Friday. Feel free to ask anything at all about your new car and here's to many years of happy ownership.

Great chocie, they may be classed as something of an entry model, but the later S model is just as good, better in my opinion, as any 8v 944 Just finishing off getting mine back on the road after nearly 2 years!! Can't wait for the summer

ORIGINAL: ccampbell84 Oh it has PCGB stickers on the window. Does anyone remember C58 TJM? Slate grey 924S
Yep, I have it on my database from 2003 when it lived in Peterborough and a note to say it was "sold to a chap in Norwich" [:)]

Yes whiney diff is common, if not usual! Fresh oil will quieten it a bit, if its still too loud for you try to get a 924 /944 owners to listen. Mike

Welcome ! I am not a member but post from time to time, I member of other Porsche club and can be everywhere especially for leisure. You will find great help here from the lads, 924 are great little cars and look really cool, people who don't really know cars....90% of the people..... don't care they see Porsche on it and just love them [8|]

Thanks for the welcome guys, I finally picked it up on Friday there and am really pleased with it. Even coming from an M3 Evo I'm surprised how quick it is, very fun 80s handling and it just seems like it can take alot of punishment. Has quite a few cosmetic issues to address, but fundamentally solid. No history with it or anything, but a full years ticket and tax so budget motoring at its finest! Previous owner stuck a new sill and a Dansk exhaust on it, took it all around Europe and it never missed a beat. Few problems I'd like to address quickly - boot release only releases one side so difficult to open. Can't seem to open it with the key, is it the ignition key you use? The power steering belt came off just before I picked it up. I wasn't even aware they had power steering! Does the belt just go round the pump and the alternator/fan pulley? Previous owner put 944 seats in it, so need to wire up the electrics to get the full manouevrability and best driving position. Anyone done this? Paintwork's pretty good. Front slam panel is a bit 'milky' and the rear quarters have that orange peel effect. How best to remedy this. Hopefully a spot of t-cut will do the trick. Finally, a pic of the best angle in my opinion...

There's no wiring for the seat in the standard loom, but I'm sure a bit of DIY wiring could get them up and running. Yes the PS belt just goes around the lower crank pulley in front of the Alt belt, the pressure bars could be siezed so heat and WD to cool them quicker and lube them is advisable, easy access from underneath with the bottom tray off
