924s petrol tank

Hi,

my petrol tank has started to rust near the straps,been quoted £650 for a reconned one fitted by an indy with a good reputation.

does anyone know if the tank from an S1 turbo will fit ?

It may well fit although it has a completely different part number, as according to PET the 924s tank is the same as the 924 Lux. The filler hose for the 924 and the turbo are the same so it should connect up ok but the rh supporting straps are different too. Additionally the 924s has a filter in the tank whereas the 924 has an additional pump, but both pump and filter use the same sealing ring, so my guess is the filter and pump both screw into the threaded socket. A std 924 tank holds about 65 litres, the turbo tank holds 84
 
thanks for that, think it sounds unrealistic then. I only asked cos my turbo needs a new clutch which would cost as much as i paid for the car and some other jobs need doing too, so thin i'm gonna break it and use the cash to get my S sorted.
 
Don't know if this helps, my first Porsche was a 924 Turbo (fantastic Car). My petrol tank sprang a leak and because I was running on a shoe string (No Money to speak off). I took it to some mates who had a garage, you know the type back street and proud to be bodging bas**rds.

They used a new product (At that time) but basically a wonder weld type stuff, you mix 2 types plastic together it becomes metal (Wallace and Gromit).

Any way worked a treat, no doubt lasted longer than the car and the cost no more than a good pub lunch. Sure there are even better products available now Space age and all that. GOT TO BE WORTH A TRY.[;)]
 
Is the turbo-charger any cop? I have a 924t that I have offerd to the 924 register as a trackday car but it needs another turbo. Is it series one or two?
 
cheers guys, re: first reply, that sounds brilliant if I can just patch it up, does anyone else know any more info on this?
re: second point, the turbo was fine before the clutch went, I got Strasse to look at it, cos I just thought it would be slave cylinder or similar & the MOT was due, but they said it needed a new clutch & the brakes were shot. Decided not to spend money on it, especially running a second 924. I live in Leeds, more than happy for anyone to come & look at the turbo.

It sounds dead easy to use, but for a novice like me, not so sure, but if its gonna save me £600+ gotta be worth a bash eh?

I don't know anyone who has actually converted to a plastic 968 tank but it could be an option.

It was years ago they repaired my tank, but I am sure you will have to drain the tank of fuel and clean the area of leak back to bare metal.

got the option of an 85 944 plastic tank or an 88 944 fibreglass tank. Mine is a steel tank. This is probably a stupid question but i'm used to asking them ! Is plastic the same as fibreglass? any ideas if either will be a perfect fit for my 87 S ?
