924S reliability problems

Greetings ladies and gentlemen
I seem to be having serious reliability problems with my 924S which has badly let me down on more than a few occasions
It started after a long time yesterday and then conked out at the traffic lights.
Feeling very confident, I changed the DME relay which I have learned to carry in the glove box (this cured the problem twice before)
Horror of horrors this did not do the trick this time.
The AA man turned up but did not seem to know too much about the DME relay and asked where it lived !! He tried changing it too but no such luck.
The electrics he said were OK
Feeding the car high octane fuel spray after removing the air filter started the car without delay.
Thus fuel problems seemed to be high on the cards he said.
He tried providing external power to the fuel pump but this did not help. In his opinion the wiring to the fuel pump seemed faulty or else the new DME relay was faulty. (Frankly this seemed uinlikely to me).
Could it be that the fuel pump itself has become faulty?
My better half missed out on a very important appointment as a result and promply issued an ultimatum.
Get it sorted or change (absolutely unthinkable!!) No place to park an extra Micra either!! (another possible option)
I can hardly believe some of you tour Europe in your 924s .I think twice before breaking the 10 mile barrier!!
I wonder if JAZ in Wembley are OK with 924s and should give the car a thorough check.

Any helpful hints no matter how significant or otherwise, would greatly be appreciated

Cheers

Shad

Check the crank sensor.

Sorry read your post again, scrap the idea of the crank sensor as it will only stop it starting not stop it if its running.

Shad, try removing an injector, ( I don't know how easy that is on an S) put a receptacle under it and crank the engine. If the pump is working you will get fuel out of the injector.

Many thanks gents for the tips. I will try to see whether this is easily removable otherwise may have to have it tested out at a bosch service centre.

Sorry to hear you have had reliability problems with the 924s.

I have owned two 924s's, one for 12 years and this latest one for 3 years, and they have been the most reliable cars I have ever owned. I have just taken my 924s to Le Mans for the 24 hour race and it never missed a beat, driving like a much newer car. It averaged well over 30 miles to the gallon plus swallowed up all the camping equipment, etc. with ease.

Yes I can vouch for that. At R19s barbecue I had the following items in my 924.
8 folding chairs,
One half drum BBQ
one portable 14 inch BBQ,
40 paper plates
30 sets of plastic cutlery
10 kilos of charcoal
BBQ utensil set in box
The 20 x 10 gazebo legs
two cold boxes
one batter power pack
Lighting fluid
carving knife
cloth
matches
disinfectant spray
temperature probe fork.
oven thermometer
fridge thermometer

and I still carried the std tool kit and spare wheel with inflator.

Many thanks Patricia ,Paul and 924nutter.for the posts
I dropped the car yesterday at a Bosch service centre.
Hopefully it will be sorted out fingers crossed. (maybe something I should have had done when I first acquired it
My confidence has been restored by all your posts
I can hardly wait to get back in my zermatt silver zoomster again.

Cheers

Just to let you know I have an 88 Zermatt Silver S and It passed it's MOT on Monday (7th July 08) I've had it since Sept 07 Without any Problems! apart from Window switch which I broke!

Yes...I got the wing...was advised by the Chap spraying to get the drivers wing sprayed at the same time to even it out ...as I'm also having lower valance done....so now I'm looking for a driver wing as mine has major bubbling at the aerial!
