924S window problems

Can anyone tell me where the window lift relay and fuse is for a 1986 924S as I cannot identify it on the fuse box? I have cleaned the contacts in the switches and now assume it is the relay or the fuse. Thanks for any help with this.

I take it you have looked at the owners manual for your car, if you still have it.
If not I'm sure someone can take a look at thier book for the relay and fuse positions.

If I remember correctly I have read somewhere that the wiring for the windows are easy to plug in incorrectly leading to confusion, i.e one window opens on the opposite side to what you expect or non operation of both windows. Can someone tell me if I'm correct here?

I have a 2 litre model so the relay/fuse chart is not going to be the same as your 'S'

Im not sure: however the wiring may be faulty within the door, the switches are notoriously unreliable and the regulator commonly binds. People usually suspect the motor, but where the motor has failed its usually due to the regulator having bound causing it to burn out.

As I don't carry my manual around with me,I can't be specific, but all the relays & fuses are under the dashboard in the passenger footwell, one set above the other at the side of the bonnet release, there being a clear plastic hinged cover over the fuses. These old style torpedo fuses can get loose in the copper contacts, the fuse metal(brass or aluminium) gets oxidised at the contact points at the bullet ends and gives a poor connection-you have to bend the contacts a little to get a good grip. Also water can drip on the relays & fuses from the battery compartment if the little rubber drain hoses & their flaps are blocked by detritus.

In my experience, the oval dash switches are much worse then the large pre oval dash types. On several 924s, 1978, 1980, 1982 and 1983 I never had a switch fail and yet I had trouble with the switches on my 944S oval and yes even my cabriolet has had to have a new passenger window switch.

The Window relay's on my 924 1981 turbo are seperate from the fuse bax and are tucked right up under the dash passenger side near to where the air vents are they are cable tied into the loom.
its a search with the the torch job.
i hope ths helps

I don't know if you still have the problem, but an expert who fixed mine said that a frequent problem is the that the contacts get very hot and when the relay goes to the off position it welds itself to the plastic stop. In my case he opened the relay and freed the contact that was stuck to the stop.
