Must be mad.
Have not quite finished '82 924 project .... and have just bought an '86 924S.
Drove it home (90 miles) on Saturday, insurance £35 for 1 day extension to present Passat 1.8T policy. Booked an MOT so as to be fully legal after checking there is no mileage limit for such a journey - allegedly.
Bags of oil pressure, anything over 1250 rpm showed 4 bar and more when hot.
Stable water temperatures, no rattles and no smoke out of exhaust on hard acceleration according to following friend. Steady 13 V on gauge.
Everything electric works (except unlatching of rear hatch - latch motor is running but won't release. But thereagain neither will the key release it as yet so investigation/adjustment needed).
Sunroof, mirrors, windows - all work.
Spare fitted to front wheel was out of balance so speed kept down.
Virtually uncracked dash.
Has sunroof bag.
Zermatt silver with teledials.Black and pinstripe interior.
Scruffy paint in places but far from a disaster.

Service history shows belts/pulleys all changed at 75,000. Now done 104,520 >>> 110,000 approx.
Yes !!!! - mileometer has died so I have had to look at the pile of MOT's and recent bills.
Rear aluminium dust shield on n/s disc detached and rattling.
Gearbox does whine so on the lookout for a quieter one or thick oil .................

But above all, what a superb drive. First time I have driven any 924 and whilst my V8 TVR Buick would leave it gasping (0-100mph in 11.5 secs), it is a treat to drive and despite being 6 ft. I found the driving position with the low wheel to be OK.
Noticed it has tubular steel exhaust manifolds and I was expecting cast iron ??

Given that original rollers and belts lasted 75,000 and that most VW Passat belt rollers will do 100,000 to 120,000 miles before seizing (I have done 3 at these mileages) is it reasonable to just put new belts on now and expect 'new' rollers to do 75,000 again and thereby be OK to total mileage of around 150,000 ?
Water pump was replaced at 70,000.
