Any news from your end ?
According to one of the organisers in an email to 928 UK yesterday , event details & funding have not been finalised with PCGB yet. see letter below.

"I have been informed and shown some mails where it is patently clear some mis-information or mis-understandings have occurred regarding the event. I am reluctant to provide precise data at the moment because we are in final discussions with the PCGB about agreeing the event details and funding.

An important point about this event is that it is not compulsory nor is it confined to PCGB members. Every aspect of the event is open to anyone as long as they have a 928 - aircooled Porsches are not invited!

Official documents will be posted on the 928.org web site as soon as possible.

Every item in the event schedule is optional and we have negotiated the best prices and where we can we have lowered the prices through subsidy/sponsorship - all to be confirmed. No one expects you to be anywhere on any specific night except the Gala Dinner on Saturday - for obvious reasons - who'd want to miss it? Apart from the Track Days (well done Ricardo!) we do not have premium events for 928 owners and certainly PCGB has never run such an event for 928s. I have said on past occasions that I feel if the UK is to run an event it must be compelling or at least fun enough for someone to schlep from across Europe or elsewhere and why not make it an event to remember with a range of optional activities. I repeat OPTIONAL activities.

There are now 700 928 owners in the PCGB register alone and we will be communicating with them all plus all non-PCGB members via 928.org and direct mail into every 928 club or register within Europe, USA, Australia/NZ. We want the world to know what we're doing and why not enjoy some cross-ocean discussion face to face.

I and a few others cannot run this event on our own and certainly not fund it by ourselves nor take the risks. This is why we are proud that the PCGB has gladly agreed to hold the first event of its kind for our cars. It will cost (over and above individual hotels and personal costs) a considerable sum to allow for the usual PCGB quality at least to make it a memorable and entertaining "holiday" for many and fun event for everyone. It also has to be funded for cash flow reasons, e.g. the PCGB have already paid out a few thousand in deposits to hold the bookings we have made.

In order to make it competitively priced we have compared alternatives and aimed to get as good a location as possible that is central and large enough for up to 200-250 people (100 plus cars). The hotel rate at two and three nights is favourable to a quality local B&B, especially when factoring the Gala Dinner inclusive. No one has to do the same hotel - we will provide a list of alternatives, but we will not be organising them. We will be providing a list of restaurants, chemists, doctors, hospitals, A&E, petrol stations etc., so do not feel awkward. It will all be revealed completely when we get full approval for the budget from the board of the PCGB, which we expect imminently. I live down here and I and my wife have scanned the B&B rates. Sure you will save from £15-20 per night at most B&B's and still have to fork out for the Gala Dinner, which is included in the full hotel tariff. Then there's the issue of no secure parking, reduction in social interaction and camaraderie. Oxford is full of alternatives and everyone is free to make their own arrangements, however we expect once the numbers are understood and the opportunity is realised, as many as is possible will join together at the one location.

This event may not be the right taste for some of you, but I hope that for most, some or all of it will be a compelling event that is a once in a decade or more opportunity not to be missed. Please do not rush me with emails as I am unlikely to answer them until we have the formal approval and complete agreement of detail with PCGB.

I am doing this because I am proud to own what was for me in my younger adult life the "supercar" worth owning and having fallen in love with one in 1988 (I owned a 944 at the time) I had to have one. The engineer in me and I suspect all of you, knows why the 928 is so great and events like this keeps the fire of desire burning and the classic values improving. I want something I can enjoy talking about in 10 years time. Please note you are getting 10 months notice to save!
