928 S4 Needs Attention

Dear all,

I am new to this forum so Hello !

I have a 1990 928 S4 in need of some TLC, I think it needs brakes, propshaft balancing, service and tune up. I live in South Bucks, can anyone of you regulars point me to a reasonble and reputed independant in my area ? I dont want the repairs to outweigh the value of the car if possible.

Any help warmly appreciated.

The best place I know of down your way is 928 Spares in Stroud. Yes a long-ish trip for you but this guy is the best in the business as far as my experiences go with him!

Thanks for the pointer fella ! Its over 80 miles to get there and I think I need problems diagnosing rather than being able to get a quote on the phone. Coupled with the fact that the car is not road legal makes it difficult.

I'm South Bucks as well, I make the trip to RPM near Tring myself. Promax are near there as well, and again highly recommended.

JZ are only in Kings Langley, so probably nearest, but are quite a lot more expensive than the others. Great service, though.

Re: JZ: I can say absolutely nothing about their service or their prices generally, but I do feel bound to report my experiences: on two occasions, having checked their prices on their website I found "special prices" which were very competitive so telephoned to order (latest one was for brake discs and pads for my 928) and was told that the website was showing the wrong prices but since this was an error on their part they were willing to give me an extra discount - on checking this 'discounted price' I discovered that the price direct from Porsche, with the PCGB discount, was marginally less - naturally I ordered from Porsche. I would add that checking the same listing on the JZ website about a week later it was still showing the same erroneous price. I would certainly accept that a week is not a long time to make a change to a website especially when you are not in the website business.

I have an 1986 928 and Paul Anderson at 928 spares is very good. The best thing with him is the selection of parts and cars he is breaking. If you need anything he has them available. I know it is a long way but definately worth it and reasonable as well.
