928 width! Any help appreciated

Hi - this is an appeal for anyone who can help, especially in central London area: anyone with a 928 or with building experience!! In brief I have a garage which has an opening wide enough to take 968s, 944s and 924s. In theory I reckon it would be wide enough for a 928 (which I am now thinking of getting). It would be a little over the top to buy one and then find it's really tight or effectively impossible to get in. I could make adjustments to garage door but not that cheaply... So here I am wondering if to buy a mega-cheap 928 just to test it out then upgrade, hire one for a few hours (any ideas?) to investigate or see if anyone with a 928 can tell me/ or help by reversing it up to the door. Worth a few bottles of bubbly maybe? [:)]

In detail: For what it's worth the current opening is 76 ins/ 193 cm. It is possible, at some expense, to widen this to 83 ins/ 212 cm.

For 944s / 968s I currently have 9.75 ins or 19.5 cm per side free.
With a 928 that would be down to 4 ins or 8 cm per side.

I can't reduce length of garage much because a 928 would only have a few inches to spare anyway.

Sorry, it's not possible to get a new garage without getting a new house. It's ironic because I have much more space at a place out of town but would like option of bringing a 928 down into the London garage too.

Any thoughts??
Sorry if you have seen similar posting on other threads or forums. Currently trying to get as much input as possible. thanks everyone.

Hi Mark :)

Well my 928 S2 IS 80 INCHES from edge of passenger mirror to edge of drivers mirror....

The mirrors in THEORY would fold in,,,,BUT they are so tight ..I would NEVER try it as mine would break :(
Even if you folded them in you would only gain about 2 more inches maybe 3....maximum.

But if I had a choice of no 928 because of a small garage....I WOULD MOVE lol ..[:D][:D]

All the best Brett :)

Thanks much Brett. For info what I do with the 944 and 968s is to reverse in -- and fold back the mirrors just before they hit the door frame. They can be extended out once they are though the opening and inside the garage. So the mirrors themselves are not a problem if they are pushed right back. This is useful because you have told me something I didn't know: I was wondering if the widest point on a 928 was actually at the wheel arches not the mirrors even when fully extended.. Just bought myself another cherished plate today so now I have all the more reason to buy another Porsche -- if it fits, he he. Now I have to break news to the missus..

I know people who drive forwards into the garage & then climb in and out through the rear hatch.

It helps if you have the type of rear hatch that can be unlatched from inside the car.

The other alternative is I know people who push their 928 in and out of the garage; they are very easy to push. You need something suitable to chock the wheels.
