928 with duff engine stranded in Belgium - help

Guys, my RHD 87 S4 has one cam sheared (valves undamaged). Belgian main dealer inviting me to pay 8K euros to rebuild. Suspect its easier for me to source an engine in the UK, but open to ideas.

I'm going to Belgium form 7 until 11 feb, and I know most of the main dealers. Also those to avoid.

Three options
1. replacement engine with www.v-zweeden.com boys are located just over the border in Holland. Market prices, get it fixed with an independant in Belgium such as Leuze Motors, Namur or SG Racing Verviers or De Ville de Goyet in Oteppe. Rs motors in Antwerp can be good but depends a bit. Also in Limburg there is a new racing stable set up- they could help you out.
2. Bring the car to my German car mechanic, roughly 200 km from the Belgian/German Border. Bottom line: 33 years service, ex- porsche main dealer (went broke- wife runs business) 3 warehouses of New Old Stock. Rare porsche parts: he's your man. Take UK prices and discount by 40%
3. Contact Paul Anderson in Stroud, Gloucs. He's the main 928 guru in the UK and he has a website: www.928Spares.com
Get the car trailered over (breakdown insurance?), get a replacement engine or rebuild your own if it is a long term ownership (worthwhile if owning car 5+ years or emotionally attached) at the specialist of your choice here in the UK.

Best of luck and sorry to hear about your troubles. Its unlickely to be cheap.

Pm me if I can be of any help.

Hi Gary :)

Bert has given excellent advice....if you decide to bring it to the UK .....as Bert says use Paul Anderson....hes TOTALLY reliable and I know him personally...if you need any help contacting him ...just let me know and I will speak to him for you....

If you need any more help....just post here :)

All the best Brett :)

Bert, Brett thanks so much; all of a sudden the horizon is not so dark! tending towards repatriation, ( engine on ebay at the moment 1200 pounds)Breakdown insurance doesn't work, but trailer hire is only about 40 pounds a day and i'm a eurotunnel freq traveller. Will follow up on yr excellent suggestions and let you know how I get on. Have been to Leuze, but like a couple of specialists over here they are much hppier working on 911s than 928s.
cheers.
If anyone knows of an engine...........................
Gary

Hi GARY,

I have spoken to Paul Anderson for you...he says he doubts you will need a complete engine..(he has heads, engines etc if needed).and will rebuild your top end assuming no bottom end damage (which could only really happen if it was all caused by lack of oil?)

Also...be very careful about buying Ebay engines....I have seen too many people who did that and came a cropper...(worse than original damaged ones etc)

Anyway give Paul a ring .....on >>07816668088

http://www.928spares.co.uk/

He will always give free advice...and if you do decide to bring it back to the UK there is nobody better to work on it...at a reasonable price too....hes a great guy as well :)

All the best Brett :)
