All,
Currently sniffing around 64 N-GT and 93 RS to supplement my 64 RSL.

Could someone clue me up on the 93 RS variants, unlike the 64 which had Lighweight, Touring and N-GT (Clubsport) there seem to be more combos of Seat Type/Aircon etc on the 93? Were there equivalents to the 64 RS range or are the 93 RSs differently categorised?

Thanks,
kevin.

Theres a 'catalogue; manual' with a Porsche part number defining rs ,rs cs and all the differences, even Swiss only gear ratios .............pretty sure its still available .............Cup CAR NOT INCLUDED

Fundamentally u cud ave ordered ur new rs in mid ,90 s with almost any combination of seats , electric windows or aircon, small or large spoiler pack

u cud even have ordered drivers seat and different passenegr seat ex factory

All original items from new will of course appear on the under bonnet sticker hoping its still there!

Sorry this isn t more helpful but u ll be buying what someoen else already specified then ..............if its puka

Vic,
Thanks for the heads up, very useful.

This makes sense as the car in question has large spoiler, comfort seats (electric), aircon and no kill switch under the bonnet although the bracket is there.

Car is pukka, extreme low mileage example with first class provenance.

Thanks again,
kevin.

My car is for sale at Sean Lockyear's but with it is the "book" to which Vic refers; it makes a really interesting read , without sounding too spotterish!

What I noticed was that the 993 RS has more differences compared to a 993 Carrera than a 964 RS does to a 964 Carrera2.

I think you are also right in that the 993 RS seemed to have more scope for options than a 964 RS, which helped give owners their ideal spec!

I hunted for a while as I definately want a/c and electric windows on mine to make UK car parks easier and European travel more comfortable. i figured the extra weight of A/c noting my 6 ft 3 17 st frame wouldn't affect matters too much! I also gigured that those items were fairly fixed in that to add them would be hard whereas things like bucket seats and airbags were an easy and entirely reversible change.

I think there were 2 main variants being the std car with carpets and the clubsport without carpets but with a cage. I am sure on top of that there will be a myriad of cup car items that more knowlegeable folks will have a handle on!

Sounds like a great position to be in having the lovely 964s and being able to add 993s!!

The bracket is on all with or without red cut out key , wud be standard on cs , then u cud have a wire loop to hang over valance /bonnet edge or red pull or evn button on outside ahead of screen firm mounted .

The combinations are truly unlinited ,best of course as i hope i inferred the bits were on the car when it left the factory ...............................

Being really cynical u do want the large spoiler kit to be real ........................immitations tend to crack after a while etc ........of course some are very good , rear real spoiler will have a manufacturers plate pinned inside ......not too hard to fake but it will have a serial number ..............unlikely ur average forger wud get the right one !

Having owned and enjoyed all 3 versions may i suggest the way to base ur wanted list on what u want to use it for .....................Cup Cars are not for picnics ...........just to and from track and nothing else .......i do believe worth it when u get there!

Rs /cs is very much for track but does have heating and a proper welded cage making rigidity a prime factor ..........however unles ur totally deicated cud be considered hard work commuting to Spa?

The 'straight rs' watever u add to it does not have the lightness of the other 2 nor the rigidity .....though all seam welded ................but was one of the best allround track day/with acceptable comfort to commute to work every day , all weather even if it was London not Spa..............i found the lightweight flywheel a brilliant addition although not originally fitted ,as mine was LHD electric windows just abt helped the toll booths /car parks in UK etc .................as with the original 2.7 rs most of these cars are abt 'added lightness'........... for ur amusement the rs i refer still exists even after 5 years of my ownership with in excess of 150000 kms and after commuting and 6/7 track days each year neither engine nor g /box have been through other than normal servicing .........practical proposition i wud suggest

kasbridge,

If you are happy to send me an email address I can send you the 993RS technical bulletin mentioned by return.

Porsche gave pratically any C2/4 option with the 993RS thus there was no Touring versions .... some what are known as "lightweight" may have come with comfy seat, sun roof, leccie windows, a/c even rear seats ..... later to be known as German Dentist spec ..... the 964RS had very few options, wheel steering boss extension the most common followed by wheel spacers and coloured back seats, thus keeping it a true lightweight ... oh and love box deletion. A/C was not an option but unofficially available and spec'd by many in the South of France and Italy.

Roygarth, with respect to the rear seats, does this show up on the option codes or was it a post production dealer fit?

Believe the seats could be ordered from the special wishes department, this model belongs to Eddie Sam, he also has turbo seats fitted again a special wishes request prior to delivery to the customer.

To be honest Paul I've never checked. I suspect 'Factory fit' as proper rear seats with flip down backs and inertia seat belts - unlike those in Eddie Sams car pictured above. Car came with flip-back sport seats, which I have, but I have fitted correct Speed Yelllow back Recarro buckets. I had planned to remove rear seats and get Southbound to carpet rear correctly, but thought it best to keep it all orginal.

Could you remind me how I would check for sure? Thanks.

Piers, if you check the factory build sticker, one section should be on the underside of the front luggage lid, the other side of the sticker should be inside the service book.
The codes i.e

m384/5 = bucket seat L/R, there will be others relating to an RS

I could not see a code for additional rear seats......you may have 185 or 186 which is for different rear seat belts.

It would be interesting to see if there is a factory code, as I would expect rear seat fitment to be something left to the dealer or special wishes, so that they did not interfere with the build process on the production line.

I see you got the new red addition to the fleet..Hope it lives up to expectations.

Paul, must be Dealer or, more likely, Special Wishes, as checked codes on website and nothing relates to Rear Seats or Seat belts etc.

F430 is incredible! Have persuaded Mrs R that no point selling RS as interest rates low, markets unpredicatable etc etc....plus of course showed her a few 72RS for sale adverts!

I wanted to put rear seats in my rs but had just seat bases as per the photo above. I took the car to quickfit to have 3 point belts fitted but they wouldn't fit them without having the fold down back part of the seats also fitted.

Looking at the photo by steve, in an accident the rear passanger back would have greater chance of being broken??? No support above the lower back.

I would not out my kids in the rear of a 993 with only the seat bases and lap belts (when I say I wouldn't I mean my wife wouldn't let me)

IIRC the 993RS was homologated as a 2 seater, so if you do fit seats and belts in the back make sure the DVLA and your insurance company are aware, otherwise you may find that your insurance is invalidated

After a bit of research on PET, I have discovered the the Japan spec RS had rear seats with a back rest and base, the same parts as the standard 94-98 Coupe and Targa

Incorrect. Japan spec RS has Clubsport Spoilers and electric windows. No rear seats.
