Is there any general guidance on when following parts need rebuild / replacement in terms of miles , and associated estimate of cost :-
A) engine
B) turbos
C) gearbox
Assuming there is a NO naming and shaming policy, is there a handful of recommended specialists for rebuilds ?
Thanks in advance
Dave.
Turbos depends entirely how the car been used ........................cool down after use or turned straight off , the latter kills them........no general rule
Suggest Achilles heel wud be head studs .............however what did the rebuild involve?? top end inc rings and valve guides /bottom end [ shoudld nt have need ] but then if it were that far, shells big end bolts [ like head studs now better materials ] crank, barrels and pistons should be fine ......................impossible to generalise ....i had a 3.0 ltr without intercooler make 213,000 miles with fierce non standard adjustable boost before it let go !
No secret lists , just some better than others .................when it comes to putting it all back together , injectors ,metering head etc all take some expertise to get right...................

Mine has been an endless bill. head stud sheared, led to engine out, valve guides, clutch etc. Heat exchangers corroded. i now have a fuel head playing up which is another 600 pounds. So the problems continue. My car has 86 k miles.
So far my nice car with full history and a ppi inspection has cost me an additional 7k pounds worth of work.
I am starting to hate it, but love it at the same time.
