930 suspension woes

I'd like to hand this query over to the Forum Collective...[FONT=verdana,geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]Steering and suspension Can anyone out there help me locate the source of a rather disturbing noise emanating from the NSF suspension / steering of my 930? It happens when the car is being driven between 10 "" 40 mph at near to full right hand lock. The noise sounds like there is something dislocating itself then popping back in when the steering is centralised. There is no noise when turning left and I have had the torsion arm bushes replaced and there is nothing obviously worn such as wheel bearings (recently replaced). I have had various people pulling, pushing and prodding around and been unable to find the cause. I have not removed the suspension leg for inspection as it works fine over speed bumps/potholes although I have been told that a broken spring can sometimes make this sort of noise. The car is fitted with RUF wheels with low profile tyres that are slightly wider than standard. Thanks in advance for your help and cooperation in sorting this problem. Also where should I look for water getting in behind the rear passenger seat? Thanks in advance for your thoughts and comments. Bryan [FONT=verdana, geneva"]

I have no immediate answer - sorry - but what I find useful when diagnosing these sort of issues is to drive the car backwards!!
Get on flat piece of tarmac (what are supermarket car parks for anyhow?) full lock, drive backwards and gently come to a halt, drive forwards. Try left and right. Usually it shows up some other characteristics which help.

Hello have you taken off the wheels to check the tyres are not catching etc.
If you have your old wheels still swap them back over go for a drive and see if it still happens .

Without the car to "pull around" I can only suggest that you check the steering box itself to make sure that the fixing bolts have not come lose; and also the steering column flex joints for any significant wear, so that the joints are not catching on themselves

Finally, I see that you have had the torsion arm bushes replaced. It is not clear whether this was before or after the noise started. If it is after I would check to make sure the tapered bolt that fixes the suspension leg to the bottom ball joint is fitted properly. These bolts can get damaged when taking the suspension apart (and cost about £18 plusVAT each as a special order from Porsche so not readily replaced)

Let meknow how you get on.

(PS Still got the flat nose, or changed again?)

I've still got my slant nose DS935 - I just posted this suspension query for another club member.
Thanks for your input to Porsche Post this month - the initial engine related piece which should have been published first is in the next issue!
Cheers

Good to see the gearbox article in print. As a footnote to the engine piece. 500bhp found the next weakest link - the 3.3 barrels, as one split. Great way to spend another £7500 on upgrade parts and rebuild !

Hope we can catch up before the next annual Porsche event.

regards simon
