Some of you may have been perplexed by the assertion in the current Porsche Post that the 930SE Register has been invited to expand and include 930LE's in it's membership.
I've checked with the Register Director that this wasn't his and my interpretation of what had been proposed and agreed....and he concurs!
The confusion has arisen as a result of two linked issues.
1) Barry and Phil from the 930SE Register recently went to the Porsche AG archive to track down what production data they could on the 930SE's built through the Special Wishes Department. They offered to find out at the same time information regarding production of the 1989 930LE and make it available to the membership, an offer which I was pleased to accept, given the mystique attached to these cars.
2) The 930SE Register 20th Anniversary display at Brands Hatch 2005 is due to be 20 cars, but there are some concerns regarding the number of SE's that will be available. Given the similarities in specification and rarity of the 930SE and 930LE (described by some as a 930SE with curves!), it was suggested that LE's might help to make up the numbers for the display. As the opportunities for Turbo Register Display cars are far less than at last years 30th Anniversary, I went along with the idea.
The bottom line is that the 930LE's stay within the 911 Turbo Register, where there is an active special interest group for those who want to delve into the history of their cars. Hopefully whatever data was obtained by Barry and Phil regarding production of the 930LE's will be made available to members upon request.
