Hi
New to the forum.
Just rejoined PCGB, having had a 911s in the 80's Now with a (tamer) 944, but thoroughly enjoying it.

Couple of questions that you might help on.

1) Bucket seats, whats the best solution? I find the seating position a bit awkward and am hoping I can improove matters.
2) Brake discs, are cross drilled worth considering?
3) I have heard of a replacement throttle cam that improves reponce and makes things a bit racier, any ideas where these are available?

Hi John, and welcome to the forum[:D]

On your first question, I'm not sure. I've never had a problem finding a decent driving position and never thougt about fitting bucket seats. Are you going to be doing any track work? For the road they might be a bit too firm, and (even more) difficult to get in and out of.

I went through this dillemma recently and ended up fitting standard porsche ones. I don't think they would make much difference with the brakes you have fitted to you car. The single piston calipers are not highly renouned, but in good standard form they should serve you well. Many companies seem to offer drilled discs at cheap prices, but I would be weary of something that sounds too cheap. It probably is.[&:]

Many companies offer a throttle cam, www.porscheshop.co.uk and www.type911.co.uk being two of them. Ive never tried one so can't comment, but have heard that they shorten the amount of throttle movement needed, helping make the engine feel more responisive. The standard one does need you to floor it to get a decent pick up.

Bear in mind an '83 car has a totally different driving position to an S2, being a 924 dash model though Rich.

I'm about to embark on the bucket seats fitment job in the coming weeks, but thus far I don't know anything useful.

Hi i have the throttle cam on my 87 944 yes it makes a good throttle reponse. I also have a K&N air filter which is good also, i aalso got a performance chip of ebay and that gives asmoother power delivery. Hope that helps you paul

Hi John, welcome to the forum and back into PCGB [:)]

I have no experience of buckets, but I have read on other forums that they are all vastly different so you really must try before you buy just to see how comfy they are. Some of the big brands (Cobra, Corbeau etc) also sell replaceable pads for extra tailored comfort.

I personally would not use cross drilled because I have heard they crack under very hard track use, so you will be replacing them more often. I love the standard vented disks on my S2 and Turbo but I appreciate it's a different calliper on your car.

The throttle cam is available from places like www.porscheshop.co.uk www.design911.co.uk www.type911.co.uk

It does not really increase power but its like reducing the length of the cable so you don't have to press so far to get a response, I've only ever heard good reports about it.
