944 2.8 stroker parts

Hi I know this is jumping in at the deep end somewhat with what is almost my first post on the forum but some people know me from Titanic (It's Ben by the way) and I have been meaning to join since I bought my first 944 3 1/2 years ago.

Anyway as many will have followed I have been having serious trouble over the last 18 months trying to build a 2.8 long stroke conversion. Unfortumately now I'm not going to be able to finish the car but it does mean that if there is anyone out there who's considering building a 2.8 but doesn't want the sweat, blood, hassle and cost of doing it themselves I may have all the parts needed and could supply as component parts for a you to build or as a ready built short block as you would buy from Porsche but with 3.0 crank, Mahle 100.5 pistons and Carrillo rods. The block has been bead blasted so looks almost like new and has been freshly machined by Serdi in London to match the supplied pistons. I also have a LR Wastegate, Cometic metal head gasket and Stage 3 Lindsey Racing head (ported and polished with larges valves many other new bits and options) available seperately.

My question is firstly would anyone be interested and secondly would people be more interested if I were to pay for it to be assembled first and sell as a short engine?

Any thoughts appreciated.

Regards,

Ben

Probably a silly question.

What's the benefit of a 2.8 litre engine? It sounds like a lot of money and effort for little benefit.

Hi Ben,
I'm sorry to hear that you're not going ahead with the 2.8, I was looking forward to that terrorising dynos throughout the land [:(]
What is the spec of the engine you're going to use, somehow I guess it might not be completely standard [:D]
Best regards,
Peter.

I'd say leave it in bits. You probably won't get back what it would cost to have it assembled as most people who would contemplate such mods would probably prefer to see the bits and that their condition is as described than take it on assembled and not able to see how it was done.

I'd just like to point out that the shiny block is my old one [:)]

Obviously this will increase the value exponentially, never been thrashed, rarely taken over 4k rpm, signed by Walter Rohrl etc..... [:D]

James the advantage of a 2.8 Turbo is bigger capacity and therefore more power. Andrews old one was over 400bhp when combined with other mods. If you are having to bore out a scored engine to 0.5mm oversize then it is an opportune time to fit the stroker rods & pistons for not a lot more than a standard 0.5mm oversize piston.

Of course this could just be any excuse to do it :ROFLMAO:

Dont do it Ben!

As I said the other day, sell the head and use the funds complete the 2.8 project. Then at a later date, save up for funds to buy another head.

Simon and I can indeed supply another updated 2.5 engine which will produce more power and last even longer than a standard new 2.5 engine, but your so nearly there with what you already have to being in the rare club of 2.8 owners!

Never mind Paul, small ones are ready for action sooner than big ones!

Erm...

By that of course I mean that small turbo's spool up sooner than huge ones.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the advise and its nice to see this is where your all hiding nowadays! I thought Titanic had gone a bit quiet!!!

With the regard to serious question about capacity (if it was serious) I'm no expert but consider that whilst 300cc may not have a huge effect on a N/A car which is only going to fit a little bit more air and fuel in for a bigger bang; with a turbo everything is increased by the no. of atmospheric pressures you are running (Bar) so at 1bar you are gaining 600cc worth of power. In addition to this with a long stroked engine the force of explosion acts for longer on the piston (as it has further to travel) so you also get more torque (which is nice).

As for my engine I do still have a shaft of light before I resort to giving up completely and selling everything. As you may have noticed I have been selling parts on ebay recently and if I can raise enough dosh with the rest of the parts (dual port waste-gate, stage 3 head etc) I can build the car as a 2.8 with standard head, turbo etc and upgrade later when I have the money (bearing in mind Andrews old 2.8 produced 400+hp even with a standard head!). So fingers crossed for now, I have had one guy from London email me already about the parts and leave me a no. but when I tried I just got an answer phone I'll try again tomorrow but if your still online I did try calling twice.

If all else fails I will sell everything (as suggested) and try to raise the money to put a brand new standard engine in the car. As a damage limitation exercise.

Regards,

Ben

p.s. sorry for long message!

I'm afraid its a long story but the long and the short of it was I was told politely to p*** off and I would have to pay a substantial amount more than I could afford if I wanted him to finish it. Which after 3 months of thinking left me no choice but to do what I'm doing.

Ben

Sorry I turned this thread into a late night rant perhaps I should go to bed and get some rest!

Best wishes everyone.

Regards,

Ben
