944 cab Turbo

OK, that's the second warning off this car in as many weeks. What's wrong with it, finance or accident damage?

Theres probably some legal reason against disclosing specific information on a specific car.

I think its fair to say however that Porsche's are generally powerfull cars that are more likely to be involved in an accident than other more run of the mill cars and therefore checking the cars history is advisable.

Understood, but if a car has been in a smack then I don't see why that can't be stated on a public forum - so long as it's true it isn't libellous.

I agree. I think the issue would be with HPI as their terms and conditions quote:

"The Information we provide to you is for your own personal use.
Accordingly you must not sell, supply or otherwise disclose the
Information to any third party."

Fair enough. A bit cheeky though when all they do is collate information that is on public record.

of course it wouldn't be against the t&c to say what it wasn't as that info has not been supplied by HPI.......!

Lets hope the bidders are as prudent as you Dan & we don't get a proud new owner on here next week thinking they have a great investment.

Strange, I have just emailed the owner about it's history and he tells me it is HPI clear and has never been in an accident???

Thats we what he told me. Perhaps he should dig deeper, Maybe under previous registrations as they can sometimes hide a chequered past.

I thought I'd dig a bit deeper into this so I contacted HPI who ran further checks , I contacted the previous owner and checked with DVLA. It turns out that the Cat B write off information they had didn't relate to this car at all but a different black 944 Turbo previously registered on the same plate. This all smelt a bit fishy to me so I thought I'd take a look at the car for myself. I took Jon Mitchell with me for some expert advice, and it turns out that in Jons opinion the car, barring a few scrapes, is sound.

So I bought it!

Only time will tell

Hi - do you think you will be able to clear the HPI history - should you want to sell it in the future.

I'd be interested to know if HPI have a way of revoking data, and on what basis they would clear the record for a car, it would be fairly difficult to prove the details? or do they match chassis numbers etc as well as the vehicle reg?

Pete

As far as I can tell they have amended their records accordingly already. Once they checked with DVLA and realised their information was incomplete they just changed the record. It was almost as though this wasn't an uncommon occurance.

Well done Chris - I think you must have ended up with a bargain after the poor bloke struggled to sell a car with an undeserved bad HPI record for so long, and you now own possibly the only 944 specification that would seriously tempt me to buy another one (triple black Turbo cab). I'm very slightly jealous.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]Let the modding begin... [:D][FONT=verdana, geneva"]

The wheels aren't too bad. I'm not a fan of the angled spokes and the front with the centre sticking out looks a bit pump but they could be worse. What are you having instead.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]If you feel you have too many cabs I might be able to help you out, but it ain't gonna be with the red one [;)][FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]You need to update your signature too.[:)][FONT=verdana, geneva"]

Ditto on that. I like the back wheels but understand how something with a more discrete style would look better.

It's great news to hear of someone getting a genuinely good buy after sundry tales of disappointment recently.

Congratulations Chris,
Glad the detective work paid off I will have to join the ranks of the green eyed brigade it is a wonderful looking car & the best of both worlds.
I look forward to seeing it in all its glory.
