944 cabrio ever available as an auto?

Someone out there probably knows this: was the 944 cabrio ever available as an auto? I've seen a few of the books and none are specific on this point as far as I can see. I want a RHD car. (I am looking to buy another Porsche, partly for the other half to drive, and she wants an auto. I'd like a convertible since I currently have a 944 coupe. The obvious answer is a Boxer or 911 I suppose: a 968 might be cheaper and 944 should be good value, so that's my starting point).

Nope. Cabrio was only ever available as an S2 (3.0 litre) or Turbo and 944's were only ever available as autos with the 2.5 NA engine, so there were never 2.5 NA nor auto cabs.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]You could go for a 968 Tiptronic cab so you don't have to face the stigma of a Boxster.[FONT=verdana, geneva"]

Thanks Fen.. he he re Boxsters -- a 968 cabrio tip it probably is then. (not sure why my login shows up as a non-member -- cos I am). cheers

Thanks... looks nice (like silver colours). I suppose I could cut roof off mine too and have its bodyshell strengthened and all that stuff - but there's a thought: perhaps some 944 autos were converted to cabrios in the early days? I've seen mention of 928 and 924 conversions, but they were always FH coupes anyway.

Have you seen a converted 924/944? I guess not, or your suggestion was tongue-in-cheek.[FONT=verdana,geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]Before anyone corrects me I do know the factory cars were also converted coupes, but they put a little more development into them than the aftermarket convertors did.[FONT=verdana, geneva"]

Hi Fen.. Nope I've not seen any 924 cabrios/944 cabrio conversions hence the question - not entirely tongue in cheek because I have seen a 928 convertible and pictures of other 928s with tops removed (think there was one on sale in last Porsche Post). Was idly wondering if anyone fancied their 924 enough to want to see her topless, as it were. Perhaps one for the 924 forum?
