944 caliper Piston

I'm in the process of refurbishing my standard single piston 944 rear calipers.
The face of the piston which makes contact with the pad has a section cut away.
What is this cut away bit for and what should it's orientation be? does it matter?
The picture of the parts manual PET is not clear.

Any ideas?

It's supposed to be angled 20 degrees up from the horizontal, sloping up as you look in from the back of the caliper (page 46-3 in the engineering manual).
 
Or put another way.
As you look at the piston when installed on car normally (with pad removed), position cutout at bottom and it should slope at 20 degrees - with the wheel rim end (i.e. where you insert pads) of the slope being the low end and the wheel centre end being the high end of the slope. I understand it is an 'anti-chatter' idea but cannot recall where I read that.
 
I always thought they were for turning the piston when trying to free it. That's is what I've always used then for (on any car that had that feature.) As the piston is free to spin in the cylinder then I can't see why having then at a certain angle is of any point.

Wot he said...........having said that, I wonder if the pistons do rotate under useage?
