944 content on daytime tv

I'm stuck at home with flu and am suffering through day time tv which i think may be worse the the flu.

I spotted the words Porsche 944 in the online channel guide so I've been watching "The Garage". This is about some dodgy looking English mechanics in Spain. They've done the clutch and gearbox on a 944. Wow they seem to have taken a long time on it. The gearbox swap seemed like the easy bit as they then disassembled half the car in an effort to get the torque tube out before popping in what may or may not be the correct clutch. The clutch looks like it's coming out for the third time as they try to sort it.

They're now diving into a 964... Can't believe i'm watching this, maybe it's the cold medication. Perhaps I should go back to perusing the car ads again.

Just goes on to show you don't improvise a clutch change on these cars without knowing how to proceed first.
Last Saturday with a friend we replaced a clutch, rear wheels bearings and adjusted lifter clearance on a 924 turbo. Took us maybe 8 hours in total.

Good luck with the flu!

Hi it's an old episode, saw it a few months ago, turns out (apparently) to be a bent release fork. I'm no mechanic, bu tit looked shambolic.

Hope you recover soon.

That's very impressive. I took the thick end of two days changing the clutch on my S2, with the help of a friend and using a pit and a few air tools.

Had you done the job before?

Oli.

I saw this episode and thought the same thing. The clutch was correct but they were unsure (probably due to the garage never having worked on a 944 before and knowing about the rubber clutches being phased out).

When you see that episode of the 944 clutch change and the other with the MGA which has an oil cooler fitted directly underneath the bonnet catch (where it initially hit it!) you soon wonder why specialists are so in demand for these cars :/).
