Please can anyone help with my problem, I am trying to update the dash lights to blue & white led's.

I have taken the clocks out & there is a total of 14 bulbs the same size as the led one's i've purchased below

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... K:MEWNX:IT

There is also 4 other bulbs 3 large bulbs at the bottom of the clocks & 1 very small bulb.

I want to change them all to leds but which one's need to be changed to blue & which one's will i need to change to white led's ?

Also what are the correct names for the 3 types of bulbs so i can find them on eBay ?

Thanks in advance Paul

There are 3 large bulbs at the bottom of the binnacle for the dash illumination. They are in white holders. You will need to resilver the 3 prism also. This can be done with tin foil or aluminium duct tape. You can get the LEDs from most motor factors or even Halfrauds. I got mine from my local place for £8 for four bulbs. You will not be able to dim the dash after fitting LEDs - Oh well [:D]

Yes thats right, so they will need to be blue, What size are they ? & does that mean all the rest should just be white ?

Not tackled the ones on my 44 so please post a pictorial diary ;)

When I did the ones on my '24S was very happy with the results, would love to get some red needles though to replace the orange ones if I did it.

You don't need to change the rest they only shine behind the coloured plastic for each indicator only the three at the bottom. Unscrew the bulb carrier by turning through 90 degrees then the bulb is a wedge fit into the white plastic holder. I forget the code. But if you take it to the shop you can match it up. Be careful with LEDs because they will only work in one polarity because they are diodes. If they don't work then turn the bulb around.

Tried that smarty pants, & of no avail, I thought these forums were for help & advice not sarcasim ?!! :s

Sorry mate I just spent 20 minutes of my life trying to find that out for you. Obviously I won't get those back. And gave you good advice about the binnacle lights. Was going to dig the LED packet out of my drawer at work tomorrow and report back to you but can't be arsed now!!!

Sorry Rob, I thought you were taken the Mick out of me, for simple ways of locating the answers !!! :'(

Paul the replacement LEDs I got were by Prism. The packaging describes as LED510B (manufacturers number) 12V T10 wedge. Upgrades from R501. There is an excellent guide to refurbing the binnacle lights in Clark's garage. www.clarks-garage.com Go to workshop manual section and you will find it. Unfortunately you can't post direct links. Very useful site for all 944 owners [:)]

Cheers Steve, much appreciated :D

I also want to change all the bulbs behind the heater/temp controls & clock " if i have missed any bulbs please advise" but before i start following the guide here - http://www.clarks-garage.com/

What bulbs are needed & how many ?

I believe there is a few like the ones listed below - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130525675155&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

Cheers Paul

be really careful taking off the dash plastics, especially the piece round the heater that clips on as the plastic is very brittle at this age, fair few have come a cropper and cracked it. the clock bulb is a 509t.

Hmm, that sounds like an ideal candidate for an electronics project. A simple PWM signal generator using the original dimmer as a potentiometer input should do the trick...

Can you tell I've been having to deal with electronics at work lately? [8|]

Just fitted them, and alot of people had told me that i wouldn't be able to dim them once fitted but it still works so thats a bonus.

Can anyone explain how they are still dimming ?

Thanks again lads [:D]

Nope can't explain that at all but who cares lol (have to say that I could get a very small change when I swapped the 924 ones, wasn't much but then I rarely dim them anyway so wouldn't bother me either way

Exactly, it's great, it still needs to be on full as they are blue led's which would not be as bright as white led's but i'm more than happy with the end result !!!
