944 engines for F1

Looks like their could be a new market opening up for 944 engines just got to persued them to increase it by 100cc:

The ongoing discussions between the FIA and the F1 manufacturers regarding a possible new F1 engine formula in 2005 include a proposal for downsizing, reports Auto Motor und Sport. The German magazine asserts that Ferrari and Mercedes-Benz are both pressing for a switch to engines with a maximum swept volume of 2.4-litres, and that BMW wants the current 3-litre V10 engines to be retained.

Remember the 1000+ BHP turbo engines?

The block for the BMW one was an old engine from a van of some sort. They used ones with at least 100,000 miles on it because they could then be sure that all the stresses had eased.

...another Strange-But-True fact from the addled brain of Mark...

Oh that van!

Still pretty amazing - the engineers say they got 1470-ish BHP out of a 1500 stock block!

Never mind all this 100BHP per litre stuff - that' s 100BHP per 10cc!

(insert your own 10cc pop group joke here)

Amazing what you can do with 5+ bar of boost - none of this 0.6 bar nonsense.
They also used the special brew fuels - they did smell quite interesting and nothing like petrol.

I think the turbo cars were the best ones to watch. Since the only limit was on fuel quantity, you could turn the boost up to actually overtake (gasp!) as long as you backed off later.
The huge boost also made them slide all over the place when the power came in.

I turned my boost up to 5 bar last night and filled the car with Special Brew from a tramp in the park. The exhaust smells lovely [&:] but how come my wife can still overtake me in the Metro????

You don' t have the special Carlsberg approved accessory - the sugar trap is required to remove the excess sugar and keep the injectors clean. Then the ethanol content together with the water injection will give more power and keep the cylinder temperature down.
