944 exhaust

pendrifter

New member
Hi All,
Fairly new owner of a '86 944.
Unfortunately the exhaust has started to blow a little (the rear box), it has been wealded previously!
Any opinions out there about secondhand stainless steel units. I've seen several at various places, which seem to be in good condition at good prices.
One rear piece I have seen was said to be a 944 but it was different to the one on the car, in that it had a smaller box (approx. 14") just behind the flange, which the present one doesn't?
Also is there any difference in a 944 front muffler, to an S2 version? Would it make any difference?
Some sound advice would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

The Dansk rear box is stainless and smaller than an OEM but is very good quality, S2 Systems are different to 8V cars. What model do you have ?

A good usuable rear section for a 944 would be about £40. The unit you have seen was from 1988 onwards cars. I have some for an 86 8V if you decide to go down the used route Welcome to the 944 fold.

I think an S2 rear exhaust can be fitted to an earlier 8V. In fact I have just bought a second hand Dansk S2 rear box and although I have not fitted it yet I can't see why it won't. If it doesn't fit there will be a cheap stainless S2 rear box up for grabs soon !

So was it you that picked up that unused one on ebay yesterday then ? Had been keeping my eye on it........

Hi All, Thanks for welcome and quick responses. Car is standard 944 (1986) not S2 or turbo. So is the difference that S2 has the added box at the front end? And would it affect tuning/performance etc or anything else on my 944. Haven't bought anything yet until I get my head around what's available and what will work! Will post results when I find out anything. Many thanks
