944 fails to start after daily use!

My 2.5 16 ventiler is used daily BUT I went to start her up today and it went to catch but then failed to start. The strange thing is it turns over faster, almost like there is no resistance ie cam belt snapped (it hasn't) and tacho goes round to 7000 rpm occasionally it sounds like it wants to catch but just keeps turning, I know this is the most asked question but anything I should check first other than plugs and rotor arm thanks

Crank or reference sensors? These issues seem all too common unfortunately. Mine had a similar issue after cutting out on circuit - it would crank, seemingly easily and the tachometer would periodically jump to 3 to 4,000 rpm. For my car, the replacement wiring loom had not been adequately joined to the existing wiring loom and this weak point was the issue. This makes me wonder... The mice have not been at your wiring have they?

Best of luck,
Mick
