944 Gone...

It is with some (and only some!) regret that I am no longer a 944 owner. My car was written off last weekend in unfortunate circumstances. On the plus side, I was insured with an agreed value, the sum of which has purchased me a rather tidy MX5 1.8i, which to be honest, despite all the hairdressing jokes is an amazing car to which I would urge no one to knock unless having actually driven one.
All the best to you continuing 944 owners - I've had a great 18 months with mine, but would I get another one? Probably not.
Cheers for all the support and advice during my ownership......
Mike.

Sorry to hear that your car came to a sticky end. 44's are great cars but they are old and inevitably have issues as a result.

Enjoy your Mazda and if I'm in the area perhaps I could have a cut and blow dry.

BTW I have to agree on the MX5 driving experience (I would have to say that since I have 2 of them!), I even got used to the somewhat limited power once the engine loosened up. The turbo is of course a bit of a little animal. I picked up some bigger disks and calipers today along with a set of braided lines as I'm sure it will be more fun when the main stopping force isn't my eyeballs popping out and hitting road furniture.

Well I don't consider my Roadster as a permanent 944 replacement, though I'd probably like to be able to afford to keep it and have the 944 back together, but of course I do use the forums for MX5s.

The UK MX5OC one is the only one I have spent any time on and it's OK. The cars are cheap enough to buy and insure that there is a "Barry" element of younger members who want to put on the biggest rimz they can (18" I think) with lairy graphics and huge rear spoilers, but there are enough members who care about making the cars go and handle better that it's not a total loss by a long way. I have already become anal about wheel weight because of it. There is even some respect for the 944 which is my avatar and in my signature.

Now here's a question: Have any of you 944 types ever had a 'bonk' (and I don't mean an accident) :) in your 944?? I am currently taking contortionist lessons and Pilates classes in preparation for my MX5 ownership!
Heheeeeee......

Cheers, Mike.

Well, thanks for that, Rick. As I remember, you told me it was perfectly sensible to sleep in the 944 after a long night of beer and firemen - you had to be there [:)]

Looking at the pictures, my hangover came back with a vengance. There is NOTHING you can do in a 944 that would not be more pleasurable in a double bed or a hotel room [;)]

I don't know... I once did a trackday in a room from the Stevenage Travelodge and to be honest it wasn't a patch on doing them in the Turbo [:D]

It was a very long way to the toilet block :ROFLMAO:

Ah, the memories. If you're in the 944 Register and your coming to Eynsham you simply must camp in the field with the rest of your comrades. I hope everyone has bought their tickets

I haven't - yet

The bucket under my car was a makeshift fridge - filled with water to keep the beer cold. I can't vouch for the others!
