944 handbook and service book

Looking for a genuine handbook and if possible a service book for an 87 944. Not sure what books, wallets came with the car when new but I'd like to source them. Anyone scrapped their 944 but still have the books?

I'm not looking to steal another cars history, I'd just like to get a book that I can get stamped when the car is serviced.

Quite often come up on e-bay, and often not cheap! I bought an '86 brochure for about £4, as new and sent well packed so there are good deals out there.

Might be worth trying Husbourne Crawley autojumble as well. Usually a crowd of 944s have lunch nearby.

Try your local dealer - they still have some years in print

I know the copany called Gmund Books also stock them but I can't seem to find their website at the moment [&:]

Hi, I have a full set of books and wallet that I aquired when I bought my replacement engine, consisting of:
Red wallet
Guarantee and Maintenance book
Drivers manual
Pocket guide to Porsche ownership
Porsche service book
Porsche national and local radio transmissions book

I will just need to photocopy the service details for the engine I have now transplanted, and you are then welcome to have these.

P.S. on another note and thread to anyone interested another good reason not to shut the forum down!!

Can you explain your comment .

Hi, Gregson
Have a look at "Our Forum" thread under PCGB Club members.

Cheers

Andy

Ah... but he's showing as a Non-Member so he won't be able to see it...[&o]

So what's the gist? Or is it a secret?

No secret, just nothing definate yet. Don't worry, we'll always post here if anything significant happens!

The basic thread is that there are threats around to close the forums to non-members, and to censor it far more. I said I'd fight to the death to keep this forum the way it is, I'm slightly regretting that now.....[:D][:D]

Anyway, hopefully it was just mis-communicated. A lot of people do get upset that so many non-members have the right to use most of the forums without any commitment to the Club, and some then use it to run us down and criticise both Club and Porsche themselves. Not constructive criticism, just personal abuse or twisting the truth. Thankfully not a problem here very often, but it only takes the odd idiot to ruin it for everyone.

One thing that does annoy a lot of forum users is hiding behind forum tags and hiding profiles. Please guys and gals, put your name, vague location and model of car in signature or profile - it's only common courtesy! Also, advertising web links in posts or signatures is not allowed, and although not really enforced I think it would help keep the critics happy if forum users didn't do it, keep links to your profile.

I feel that the 944 forum is one of the best resources the Club has, and also the 944 community in all it's guises. This forum is a shopfront for the Club to the wider 944 community, and I know that most of you do appreciate that it is ultimately a Club forum and don't abuse that. I hope you all feel welcome here - it wouldn't work without you, and I will continue to fight to keep things as they are. [:)]

Fair enough Paul, thanks for the info. I think the forum as a whole will suffer greatly if its 'membership' is reduced or restricted as there are many members who, for whatever reason, do not wish to be members of PCGB at this time. There are plenty of non-members who contribute meaningful dialogue and restricting a discussion-type forum is not the way forward, in my opinion. Being involved in this forum may encourage people to join PCGB (e.g. I now know I can borrow a tensioner tool, speak to an expert, get discounts from OPC / Bert / Others) and it's a better advert for the club then an A5 brochure where the benefits of joining are vague.

Of course, should anyone post anything that you or any other moderator deems unsuitable it should be removed and the user banned if necessary - I don't think anyone would have a problem with that.

Banning non-members was detrimental for the BMW owners' club, IMO.

Without putting words into your mouth; reading your post it would seem that you are in agreement. I have never seen anything problematic on the 944 forums.

Good luck with the fight! [;)]

Couldn't agree more [:)]

Thanks Ian - put very nicely!

We have had problems, but in public and resolved easily. I prefer to let people hang themselves on the forum than go somewhere else and moan!
