944 immobiliser

My 944S2 cabriolet is fitted with a Porsche immobiliser, presumably from new. I would like to know whether it is Thatcham approved and if so is it category one or two as obviously the answer makes a difference to the insurance premiums and the books that came with the car don't seem to cover this matter. Thanks in advance for your answer(s).

If it's the one where you push the tag into a doohickie on the steering column (or dash somewhere), then it is not Thatcham approved at all.

BUT most companies will ovver you a reduction commensurate with having a Cat 2 device fitted if you ask nicely. (Cat 1 is for alarms, Cat 2 is for immobilisers.)

Oli.

The original Porsche immobilisers were graded as Thatcham Category 2 a few years ago and a local Porsche Centre should be able to check it over and provide you with some paperwork (sometimes they don't even charge).

The system was actually made by these guys http://www.hamilton-palmer.co.uk/ and they are generally very helpful if the dealer cannot be.
