944 Induction kits

For all you early 944 owners (models up to 1985) I've found an induction kit that will fit straight onto an early 944 2.5ltr. It's made by a company called Green Filters. They do high performance panel filters to single and twin cone kits, they even do the powerflow kit. I thought I'd let any 944 owners who want a power upgrade know where to order one from and how much it costs. I ordered one from "Demon Tweeks" based in Wrexham N. Wales, they do a mail order shop and deliver to any where in the U.K. for a nominal fee. The price I was quoted for a standard single cone kit was £64.64p (includes VAT) part number "P9". Current waiting time is a about 14 days. If anyone's interested in the kit, Demon Tweeks phone number is 01978 664466.
I hope I've been of some help to you 944 owners.

Dazz944, and others, I would be carefull with aftermarket induction kits. Whilst you can remove the filter housing and replace the big ugly box with a nice cone filter, seldom do these kits include brackets or support for the Air Flow Meter (AFM). Generaly the air box affords support to the AFM by nature of its mounting.

Also, the original setup may have an oil breather pipe venting into the filter box or a vacuum hose cleaning out the ozone from the cam belt housing. After market kits often fail to provide for these.

I bought a fairly comprehensive kit from the States for my Lux some uears ago. IIRC this was IRO £120 but even that required modification. Again IIRC it came from 9xauto. They were a pain in the bum to deal with and subsequently sold me an induction kit theoretically for my Turbo which wouldn't fit a Turbo in a month of Sundays. When I discussed this with them they suggested that the reason it didn't fit was my car may have had a front end smash.[]. In the end I manufactured my own K&N system for the Turbo.

Be warned!!!

You are crazy to deal with 9xauto. May as well play Russian Roulette with an auto pistol. Partswerks in Chicago is another place to stay away from.

On the cam/BS cover hose, Porsche had a service memo issued to remove the hose and cap the ports up. I don't know exactly why. But you are right about all the ozone being created by the distributor arcing. Ozone is not so good for rubber belts.

As per your reply to my Induction kit thing, I called Green Filters, and they told me it would fit my car, it comes with the mounting bracket for the airflow sensor, and the kit also comes with fitting instructions. Check out Green's website at www.greenfilters.com and the click the link for "Search by car", I'm sure you'll find instructions for the kit there too.

Hi again dazz944,

I did see a Green Filters induction kit a couple of years ago and, unless they have changed it, I don't consider a length of oversized meccano to be a mounting bracket. I have nothing against the Green Filter kit but think you get what you pay for.

I note Mr Shark's comments regarding 9xauto and, if his experiences are anything like mine, think how much more vulnerable we are - being in another country. I don't know who makes their Lux induction kit but, in fairness to them, once I had modified it, it was very good.

See above the induction kit I manufactured for Beaky when the 9xauto one didn't fit. The "top hat" for fitting a standard filter to the AFM is readily available from Demon Tweeks. If you refer to the K&N web site they list all of their filters so you just choose the best fit. I manufactured my AFM mounting bracket out of a length of 100 x 25 x 3 ali angle (nice and light) and not a bit of radio mounting strap (galvanised builders strip) to be seen. [;)]. This has now been removed and MAP installed.
