My mate has just bought one of these and wants to do trackdays and the Ring.
Obviously Brakes and suspension are to be upgraded inc all the bushes.
What are the tried and tested makes to use as uprades,on a reasonable budget????
Many thanks in advance.

I had a 2.7 before my current car, as a GT it was great but the ride was too soft for the track. Lots of people will suggest various shock/spring upgrades so I'll leave that to them & just recommend you get hold of some anti-roll bars from a turbo, or aftermarket ones to help keep the body in check.

Suspension & hubs are pretty well the same as an S2 so any upgrades suitable for an S2 will work. You only have single pot floating calipers rather than the four-pot brembos so you could change to an S2/early turbo spec (calipers & disks) but for the money a set of harder pads in the standard brakes would probably be better value, the standard brakes are very good anyway.

As for the engine there's not much you can do beyond a sports exhaust (Dansk are good iirc) and a chip. Don't be tempted by a cone filter for a lux, the standard air box flows extremely well & has the advantage of a cold air feed. A cone will make it sound more sporty though [:)]

You can get a replacement throttle 'cam' which makes the butterfly open more quickly at small throttle inputs. Apparently they transform the feel of the throttle but imo all it does is give you less control than the standard cam.

I still have an Accell Racing chip in my garage that I never fitted (sold the car before it arrived) if your mate's interested, or have a look on the Promax website for one of theirs.

I agree with Malc. Assuming the car is spot on to start with I'd concentrate on the brakes, I'd recommend using carbon metallic pads such as Porterfield or Performance Friction, high temp race brake fluid like Castrol SRF and it's probably worth adding in some braided hoses if there's some money spare.

Go for the best tyres available (many of us use Toyo's with good results, T1-R for all year road and track or 888's for more track orientated use).

The later turbo antiroll bars are a great improvement on a tight budget, add some KLA arb braces whilst it's in pieces. If you want to do the bushes I use the Powerflex and would recommend them, but I'd suggest they are arguably a fairly low priority on the standard suspension.

I also wouldn't worry about performance mods to the engine, although if it's high mileage I suspect it will really benefit from a top end rebuild, so it might be worth doing this (or at least getting it on a dyno to find out where it's at).

Rather than searching for power increases I'd recommend concentrating on making the car lighter by changing to bucket seats and so on (these are well specified and heavy cars, so there's lots of weight that can easily be saved).

As far as I'm aware the throttle response cam is only for the 8v engines, it isn't necessary (and wont fit) on the 944S (but I wouldn't want to be without one on a an 8v Lux!). On track I'd recommend a short shift kit on the gearbox, the standard throw is just too long and on an 944S there's a lot of gearchanging to be done due to the relatively small power band.
