944 mirror question

Hi guys,

Should the mirror surround and motor (Part No. Part No: 944 731 027 01)
come complete (new from Porsche) with the mirror attachment plate, or is that a seperate part?

i.e. is the below item complete??

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300542456714&ssPageName=STRK:MESOX:IT

Thanks for your help.

yes, I sold it on Fle-bay.

But now the buyer says it's not complete as the mirror holder is missing? He even saw the picture
before buying it, and thats what I sent?!!
I've had the part in its box since I had my 944 a few years back. It's never been used. Now I have to
find out if the mirror holder is part of this item and has been removed before I got it, or if this
part number relates to just the item shown, and the mirror holder is a seperate part which some-how
fits into the unit I sold.

So any help is welcome.

Thanks again

Simon

Can anyone please explain how the mirror fits to the rubber circular bit??

Having removed a couple of glass sections from 944 mirrors, it's a little tricky but can be done.

What you have to do is have the mirror at an acute angle down and to one side this will expose some of the mechanism you can see in the picture above. Located on the back of the glass is plastic locking ring that should lock into a moveable ring on the mechanism (appears to be missing from your picture), you insert a small screwdriver and 'unlock' the ring and the glass pops out then only held in by the two electrical contacts that connect to the heating element.

I'm at work today, but if you can wait until later, I'll pull one of the spare mirrors I have apart and show what I mean ?

yours

Chris

hi Chris,

Thanks for your reply.

So your confirming that there does appear to be a piece of the above mirror missing that should come with the surround,
which the mirror glas connects to?

Simon

Just looked at a spare one i've got and yes it looks like there's a bit missing. There should be a white bar across between the motors which is connected to a black ring with 4 holes around the edge for the mirror backing plate to slot into. The missing bits form a gimbal allowing movement in all directions.

heres a disassembled flag mirror;

it looks like the locking ring is part of the assembly, there are two notched bars attached to the ring by ball joints that link to the motor gears. plastics a bit brittle didnt want to disassemble one any further im afraid.
