My 944 has just failed its MOT !!! ( What a bummer)
I have the offside rear wheel binding and the hanbrake is not applying any braking to that wheel. I dont use the car much (500 mile a year). I always leave the car garaged with the hanbrake OFF.
I have stripped it down and it is quite corroded, after much cleaning up,replacing of the shoes and greasing all the moving parts it is no better !!
When i apply the handbake it seems to not release properly unless i spin the wheel backwards then it is fine. I have adjusted the cable as per the Haynes manual but still no improvement.
When the hanbrake is released there is still tension on the cable that is entering the hub, it does release when given a light tug!!
Does anybody know if the problem would be solved by replacing the cable?
I have read the Haynes manual and it states that the drivers seat must be removed to do this??? Is this true??
It then says locate the cable entry point under the car and give it a sharp tug and it will come free. It then says simply attach to each side, and Bobs your uncle !
I have been under the car but it looks like the cable is in two parts and very cleverly attached so that it is virtually impossible to remove...
Has anybody done this? If so any tips would be greatly appreciated.
If anybody has any other ideas that will get my car back off its axle stands i would greatly appreciate them.
Thanks
Ian
