944 petrol tank

You can make it fit, but its a substantial job. The mounts differ, as does a cross member and, I think, the gearbox mount.

It wont fit, as per my post above. 1986 model year onwards (series two cars) cars used a plastic tank and youll have to do the work outlined in my link above, if you want to make it fit. Its a substantial job. All series one 944s (1982-1985 model years) and 924s, including the 1986-1988 924Ss used a metal tank.

A car built in 1985 with a plastic fuel tank will certainly be a 1986 model year series two car. These were built for September 1985 onwards.

Hi Simon,

Not disagreeing, but it can be made to fit..The cross-member is no biggie, since there are enough Series two cars belly-up out there. And my 924S had the mounting points for the later cross-member already pre-drilled in the body-in-white, so no welding was required.

The advantages: No more leaks, and 1/3 more tank capacity for those long stretches of Autoroute when you're heading to the South of France, under aircraft-less skies.. :)

Hello Sean. It certainly can be made to fit, but its not a small job, which was the point of my first post. The post above was intended to emphasise that the eBay vendor wasn't being straight with the OP, because a 1985 plastic tank wont fot a series one car: which's what he seems to have told the fellow. Sorry of that wasnt particularly clear, as it was rushed.
