944 Pick-up on ebay

Never seen anything like that before, would certainly turn a few heads.
Makes the 944 ( A van that goes like sh1t) even more practical.
Now where are my tin-snips?
Cheers,

I was all ready to hate it but, strangely, I quite like it.

I would think that it might be a bit cramped in the front as it doesn't look like you could get the seats back as far as you would perhaps like, but otherwise not a bad option.

Having disposed of our Freelander I am missing not having a van. Perhaps I should convert Beaky. [:D]

Bu**er, I've only just bought another car, too.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]That would make a superb conversion for the MTGQ:[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]Remove weight of tailgate - check[FONT=verdana, geneva"]Remove sunroof - check[FONT=verdana, geneva"]Able to carry a set of track wheels and a toolbox - check[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"] I don't even have to worry about not being unable to recline my seats.[FONT=verdana, geneva"]

If only it was an automatic. I have a towbar for a 944 sitting in the garage so would make an ideal camping vehicle with bike trailer. Roll on summer.[:)]

There might be some weight put back in forming/reinforcing the load bay, but that is nice and low down so you get an improved Centre of Gravity without moving too much of the 50/50 weight distribution. [:D]

You might want to add a toneau cover to get rid of the air brake at the rear. Also think how easy it would be to fabricate a roll cage, 50% of it would be exposed.

One instinctively knows when something is right. [8|]

Obviously it would need a bit of money spending on it. I mean...orange side repeaters on a black car? Pleeeassse!

Oh! Please don't look at my Jeep's indicators. Does anyone know where I can get some matching black ones from?[;)]
Cheers,

And it may not be alone...

Unfortunately, things were not so rosy for sports car fans in Norway as import duties made the 944 prohibitively expensive there. As the tax rate for vans was considerably lower, the 944 was converted by resourceful craftsmen into a pickup: the rear seats were folded back and welded into place, a glass separator was fitted behind the seats, the rear window was removed "" and there you had it, a pickup.

(BTW, can anyone access that eBay item now? I can't see it.)

I've seen the piccy of the 944 estate conversion which looked a bit like an Allegro estate [;)]

The item is no longer available. It was a 0 rated seller - not sure if they've done something naughty! Pity really as I had done some low level planning to bid on it but SWMBO thought it was a pants idea.

Still I was surprised to find that the cost of taking a van & trailer on the Eurotunnel was only around £108 and could be done cheaper if you were prepared to travel at 3.30am and assist in driving the train!
