944 Power Windows fusing

Hi,

I'm having problems with my 944 S2 power windows - they keep fusing. They'll work for a bit, maybe a day, maybe a few weeks then they stop - having fused.

Before I go about playing with the relay and wiring in the door panel has anyone had the same problems? My guesses are:

1.) Dodgy wiring in the door connector
2.) Dodgy relay
3.) (I have refurbished the switches)

Any thoughts welcome.

Thanks

Will

Had you considered that the regulator may be seizing up? Its usually the regulator its self, as opposed to the motor which is at fault.

Stupid question but I had assumed that it was switch to relay to motor...? Where does the regulator come into it?

Thanks

Will

Sorry I had assumed that was an electrical part - just figured out what it is.... i don;t think its that. It actually fuses when I switch the ignition, without even touching the window button. I think it's the relay...

Good assumption?

Happy new year

Thanks

Will

Mine used to do this. Still do if the drivers door is opened wide enough. The rubber sleeve protecting the wires from the door to the body had split and the wires were catching. I've managed to tidy them all up and 90% of the time all is well unless as I say the door is opened widely. The whole lot needs a rewire really, it's on the list. Check the rubber sleeve for splits and the wires for exposed copper.

Actually that isn't as difficult a job as you might think, Damon. The door has a separate loom which plugs into the rest of the loom under the dash either side, so you just need to get the wiring from a door that has the same speaker configuration yours has and it's plug and play; no soldering nor (much) swearing involved.

WillJ you could try unplugging those door looms one at a time to see if one of them disconnects the problem as I agree if it happens on ignition then it's electrical rather than a stiff regulator overloading the motor.

Fen, do you know any retailers who would have a door loom or would I have to look at a breakers? (I bought Damons car)

Thanks in advance :)

I'd recommend using a breakers for this sort of thing, Simon at SAR Classics might have one and I'm sure Porschapart will.

Saying that, I might have a spare you can have from my Lux, I didn't pay much attention to them when I gutted it so am not sure what state they are in, but might be worth trying it to see if that's where the problem lies.

Thanks Peter, very kind, would the Lux loom work ok on my Turbo?

Haven't the foggiest to be honest, but I'd have thought they'd be the same. I'll have a dig through the boxes of stuff when I get a moment, this might not be till Monday though as that's my next day off.

I imagine the looms between doors with and without the 10 speaker option will be different (more wires in the 10 speaker option doors) so need to make sure it's a loom of a 10 speaker car (I think!).

Good point! Douglas Valley have a Turbo with the ten speaker option, just waiting for them to get back to me.
