Not wishing to disappoint you John but most people opt for removing their cats rather than replacing them.

theres definitely the temptation when owning such a wonderful car as the 944 turbo to take the catalyst off, especially if the car is for track use.
It will definitely enhance the performance by reducing the exhaust backpressure.

For cars primarily intented for road use i`ll just add my 2 cents, for what its worth(probably not much, but here goes!).
1.this model is really popular in germany, and the market is very buoyant,so be aware that if you intend selling it in germany it will fail the 2 yearly service by being in breach of the tuv rules
2.as a performance modification it is notifiable to the insurer, and failure to do so may invalidate the claim, and also affect 3rd party liability.I suspect this modification could add about 20 per cent to the premium, because classic cars if unmodifiaed are viewed very favourably by insuance companies(i can insure an unmodified 924 for £150!)
3.emissions requirements are becoming more onerous,in germany many non catalysed cars have already been forced off the road
4.i am not a pc person, but environmental issues are becoming very relevant in the car industry.

justby 2 cents as i say,no more

thanks
john

in germany ........ pc great britain [;)] lol most people replace their old cat for the mot or just drop the fuelling instead to get through :) . still should sell as plenty are kept standard . re the 150 to insure a 924 .... most arent worth 150 quid anyway lol im 600 quid fully comp on a 944 at 24 yr old [;)]

1. As most of us drive RHD cars which would be worth about 60% of their UK value in Germany this is a non issue

2. As long as you have an engineers certificate documenting changes, removing a CAT will not add 20% to your premium. As i recall the early 944T did not have them in the first place. So if your case is put forward correctly you will maybe even get away without a loading at all.

3. Please tell us which make and model you refer to when you say " in Germany many non catalysed cars have already been forced off the road". A pal of mine Bremen runs one of the worst Gas guzzelers a Chevy engined Overfinch RangeRover and has not been forced off the road despite 12 miles to the gallon. Thinking about it he also has a Jenson Interceptor convertible too and they are pretty thirsty with a 7.0l V8

4. If you are that worried about the environment lobby China/India and ride a bike

I hate people trying to scaremonger. Yes we all have social responsibilities but we get them forced down our throats every day. This forum is for porsche owners, we all know the facts about our cars. Lets leave the Nanny state to Tony Blair for his last few days in office

i have one of these too and if anybody wants it come and collect it free of charge!!!

thanks for all the emails, just to clarify its surrey, thanks folks

Welcome to the forum Paula,

I think you could find Tom's cat might be cheaper than that. [;)]
