as im new to porsche any help would be welcomed

To start it sound possibly as if the DME relay that controls the fuel pump has failed (this is common) and someone has installed a bodge to try and make it run. Not sure why when the part is only £30. I'd buy that first and try again before buying loads of new ignition parts that you 'may' not need. Also have you taken the distributor cap off and had a look at the condition of the rotor arm. These can become brittle and even shatter when very old.

Theyre commonly messed about with when immobilisers are fitted too. The fuel pump should only run when the engine is turning, but many cars, especially earlier ones, fuel pumps come on when the immobiliser is turned off. The wiring can be frightening when seen...

Hiya - welcome to being kept awake all night trying to figure out what's not working........ Windows could well be something as simple as the fuse ? Do you hear any movement at all when you try them....... Coil could be on the blink - do you have a multimeter to check the resistance of the primary and secondary sides of the coil per the Bosch spec ? I suspected mine and swopped it with a known good one from a kind chap on this forum and it turned out mine was fine, so have a useable replacement if you want to try - PM/email me if you need. Check the whole of the ignition circuit from the battery>coil>distributor>plugs as bad connection/duff lead at any point could be key to no-spark condition. Bosch manual for the DME says do not test the spark by holding the plug against the block and trying to turn it over as you could fry the DME...... Concur with DivineE - sounds like the fuel pump relay has been bypassed by installing a jumper lead in it's place, but you are only meant to do this as a temporary measure and must disconnect when the ignition is off otherwise you get a very flat battery ! Stick your head down the passenger footwell to find the fuse/relay board - DME relay is the top left relay and is probably missing..... Lots of info available on [link=http://www.clarks-garage.com/]Clarks Garage[/link] which you are going to find helpful [:)]

Good to see somebody else with a 944 project, I have a 1983 I'm working on at the moment. The fuel pump does sound like a jumper lead has been put in place to keep it running instead of the standard DME Relay.

update, found the fuel pump relay was faulty, the starting problem, i have found 1 of the 2 crank sensors is not working, where to get one of those? not looked at the windows yet, thanks for all the advice guys

Beat me to it but the reference sensors on these are engines are very often over looked as reason for starting problems. The one that will be cause the problem is BG, DG isn't needed for the engine to run, so if you can test both with multimeter and the DG one is working you can swap them over, DG is a speed sensor that comes into play when the car is hooked up to a computer. When you look at the plug have it so the single tag in the middle is at the top then test the middle and left connectors with an Ohm meter should be between 600 & 1600 Ohms As for replacements, they are expensive but depending on your budget you can always look for someone breaking a known running 944

There are some AUdi ones on ebay right now that would fit [;)] Oh and just for ref. the ones fitted to the 924S, 944 & 968 are all the same

Could you link to the Audi ones?

ORIGINAL: Eiger windows could be a relay - £36 from Porsche
Switches also fail and power for both will be routed through the drivers side switch, as I recall. The mechanisms do fail though, which causes the motors to burn out eventually.
