944 rear decal

Hello All, I'm a first time poster, though I've been reading the posts for a while now (and finding myself completely out of my depth!) I have recently acquired a 1986 Guards Red 944L and I'm getting it re-sprayed. Does anyone know where I might pick up a PORSCHE decal for the rear moulding just above the bumper? I apologise if this request makes me look like a complete novice, it's only because I am! Thanks for your help.

i was looking at this on ebay:

I need one for mine too. I think Porsche probably still do them too

Glenn at Porsche centre Leicester,he will do you parts by post, mention 944 register and he will do his very best on price.

I have a few of these somewhere in storage. If you want to PM me and donate £10 to a charity of your choice I'll pop one in the post.

I think original is so cheap Rick wouldn't do it any better, if he even stocks them?

My only reason to go to Type 911 for the genuine article was that they gave a better Club discount. Porsche centres should be able to discount their own parts better to Club members, but don't always do so. []

As always, read the suppliers faq and decide where to buy. Porsche first, at least for a guide price for the right thing. Proper suppliers second. Ebay is sometimes perfect, as it was for my stoneguard set on Type 911's recomendation, but you need to be sure before you go there.

There are some of these decals on ebay that are hideously wrong. The panel isn't flat, so the decal has to "kick up" (or down, I can't remember) in order to lay flat on the car. The Porsche ones are right, Rick's ones are right, but there are at least some on ebay which are definitely not. Look at enough 944's and you will find some with them fitted. Very obvious when you do.

I made some of these for my car a while ago (not for resale I may add) and I took the measurements from the old decal. Flat are fine you just need to be careful when you apply but it's fairly straightforward. I would buy Porsche if I had to. They only use 3M or better vinyl and of course they are guaranteed to fit. They are also not that expensive when you consider how much the material is to buy.

It is important to mention that Rick is breaking the law by selling these decals as is everyone on ebay, they are copyrighted and unless you hold a license to manufacture these (which Porsche do not give) then you run the risk of prosecution. As a license holder of a number of 'famous' automotive brands I think we should not condone this especially as a club (which I am not a member of). I apologise in advance if Rick has an official license to sell these but I'm guessing from the deletion of artwork on his website this isn't the case!

I agree. That's why ebay is recommended to be the last place to go.

Whilst I can't speak for Rick, so far as I'm aware he does work with Porsche UK and doesn't infringe copyright. I have a feeling some of the decals are NLA from Porsche, the 924 Le Mans rings a bell.

I didn't think he sold the rear decal to be honest, might be wrong though. [&:]

I believe Rick stocks them as I asked a while back. Not sure, if he has updated his website, but he will send a link to order the decal.

In the end for the above reasons I went with an OPC one ableit at a cost (around £30-40 IIRC). It did look spot on once fitted:

Received one from Jase the other day, Took a bit of adjustment to get it to wrap around the corners correctly, but pleased with the results...

Anybody else want one for a charity of their choice let me know. I'll cover the post and supply the decal. You donate to a charity of your choice.

Thanks
