944 rear swing arm mount help

as you can see where the swing arm is ment to mount in that box section and around that area has rotted and in need of replacement parts, is there part numbers for these panels or do i need a blacksmith to cobble some metal into shape or anyone with useful information would be great
 
Looks very bad its the torsion bar tube mounting point and probably the tip of the iceberg. Definite MoT failure and dangerous. You need a good body shop to have a look at it. Anything can be repaired but at a price.
 
yeah its bad alright but was hoping i could get the oem parts for it then set about getting the work done
 
Ouch. That's not pretty.

I'm not sure whether there are repair panels available for that part but, even if there were, it would be a big job to cut out the affected region and weld in something new.

What model of 944 is it?

Very nasty. Will take more than a bit of 'cobbling' to sort properly. Likely to be a can o' worms once you, or the unfortunate person who has to fix it gets in there. I would get the whole underside checked out thoroughly, there's likely to be more, and possibly some cover-ups. if you have to pay to get it done it could run into thousands for a proper job.


 
rest of the car is in good nic and working order, maybe i have to go down the root of someone who does 944 for a living if i cant get replacement parts
 
Hope so, If you're lucky, it's just that corner,but you need to get it looked over by an experienced repairer. From the picture it looks like the seam from floor to sill has been plated over already, so it is likely to have other rust issues lurking in there. Anything's repairable, though. At a price.
 
hmm....that doesn't look good Alex, I suspect as others have said this is just the tip of the iceberg....it looks to me that someone has attempted some repairs which have not been done properly...the floor to sill joint is all wrong...is it the same the other side? IMHO if it's possible to save the car you're looking at new sill's both inner and outer, fabrication of torsion bar support and perhaps new floor panels....alas I suspect you have a real can of worms awaiting discovery ahead of you. I wish you luck, I hate to see a car given up on...anything is possible to fix but unless you can do this yourself it's not going to be cheap, probably much more than the value of the car.

It may be one solution, if you go that route I'd cut the replacement section to suit what you need, I wouldn't advise trying to fit the entire quarter panel, to much unnecessary work IMHO. To do this type of repair properly though you should use a Porsche jig, chances of getting the torsion bar mounts welded in place accurately without I'd say is nigh on impossible. As I said before do check the floor pan panels, looking at your photo's it looks to me that they've had some sort of repair and going by what's been done to the sill I suspect not a very good one at that.

Thanks for the advice, yep I was thinking cutting the sections out that I need because that rear quarter looks to be in good nick. It's only at the back end where someone has done't a bodge job. Rest of the sill looks OK but until me or someone starts chopping into it who knows how far the rabbit hole goes
 
Ouch! Hard to see from the photo but looks like it's been bodged all the way along to me. I don't see any sill drain holes or the seam between the sill, floor and inner panel (which also has drain holes stamped into the sill).
Not unusual and absolutely can be repaired. All of the rot needs to be cut out, the torsion tube dropped and then see what's left!
What is the other side like... good enough to use as a reference?
The sill is definitely worth buying a factory panel. Everything else I would just fabricate based on a good reference for the original structure. Good luck!
 
I would pull back the carpets and have a look at where the floor meets the inner sill. Put some pictures up of that section.
As others have already said, anything is repairable but you are going to need to choose between spending lots of time or lots of money to put that little lot right. Several of us on here have done similar repairs although yours is as bad as I have seen.
 
Where are you based? Chances are there will be someone on here with experience of rust not far from you who can come and have a look at it for you. If you are anywhere near the M11 then I will happily pop round and survey it for you.
