S2's and Turbos get roughly 28mpg on a run in my experience, cost £300 to service every 12k miles (plus an oil/filter change at 6k for a Turbo). I've never had a Lux so can't comment, but it will probably be similar.
You'd be lucky to get an S2 that didn't need some work (but somebody on Titanic got a good one on eBay for under £3k IIRC) and very lucky with a Turbo at your budget, but then again paying all the money doesn't necessarily get to a car with no stories or problems.
You should have your pick of sensible, nice 2.5, 2.7 or 2.5S models at £5k - some will be up for more but I'm reading that you want this as your daily driver so concourse standard & zero miles is not required. Maybe a late 2.7 Lux would be the best bet?

£5k should get you an extremely good Lux, possibly a good S2 but that will be nearly at the lower end of the S2 price range so be very careful. Best advice is to test lots because they vary widely and not all owners know that theirs really is a bit scrappy even though it lookd good on first appearance. Driving a few should soon sort you out. Lots of history is a good indicator but not essential as who is to know how genuine it is?
