944 S valve assembly

Hello all - I am re-building the head on my 944 S. I took it apart over a year ago, now faced with the rebuild I'm having trouble remembering where parts go ![:)]

At the moment I'm trying to put the valves back in the head, but can't figure out how the two peice valve stem oil seals fit! Can anybody fill me in?

The two bits are a small metal flange with a rubber and circular spring which is the diameter of the valve stem and the other is a larger tappered rubber gromit/washer.

If anybody can put into words how these fit around the valve I would love to read it!!!!

Superb Rick - thanks alot. Great site you have there.....very useful for a "have a go hero" like myself!

John, let us know how you got when you've finished.

I think its fair to say that 'most' of us on here have not changed the valves on any 944 head, let alone a 16 valver.

Cue a load of people saying 'I have Paul' [8|]

I have Paul*[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]*As is now the norm in these cases not strictly true. mik, I believe it's your turn now...[FONT=verdana,geneva"]

Just done so Mr Coull.

I'll locate it in amongst the parts in the garages first, then we'll haggle [:D] [:D]

Verily Mr Coull,

for that great artisan from Oklahoma has just this day weaved me a new injector loom for my sequential injection

Indeed he has also shipped that great musical instrument that may only be described as a DPW vent to atmosphere

Charge up your noise meters and let the recordings commence.

By the way, I've just had an idea. Take our cars to Bruntingthorp, opposite ends of the runway, stereo microphones in the middle, cars timed to pass in opposite directions at max revs at the same time. Coule be a limited edition CD for the Xmas market ?

[:D] [:D] [:D] [:D] [:D] [:D]

Sorry to hijack this topic.
I'll leave now. (continue on Titanic tomorrow...)

PS I got 8mm Magnecor leads for the 944S as well, so I'm sort of on topic ...

Rick.

[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]Excellent! So in a few weeks when you have figured out how to take them from "nearly fit" to "actually fit" you will have sequential injection like my car does [8D][;)][:)] I'd better get my sequential ignition worked out - them Jones's are catching up [:D][FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]I like the Brunters idea. I need to get my finger out and get my wastegate venting to atmosphere first though. Sometimes 106dB just isn't enough.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]I was going to say sorry for the complete hijack, but what the hell? The question was answered second post anyway wasn't it? Feel free to drag the post back to the subject of course anyone who wants to.[FONT=verdana, geneva"]

Nah, forget that. I'm wondering if anyone has any Bruntingthorpe contacts?

We've had a 944 dyno day, we've had numerous trackdays, now it's time for a full on top speed tastic horsepower day [8D]

Straight line only, no twisties, Mistress Radar never lies.

once my car is rebuilt of course [:)]

Well Bev was talking about something similar (though not at Brunters) for a September outing but it went quiet. I posted a few weeks ago to see if it was still happening and got no response. Shame, especially as I only renewed my Club membership to go to Brands and that. Since it looks like I will not be seeing either that was a waste of £50-odd quid then, wasn't it? It's even gone a bit quiet on the (I had thought) annual R15 1/4 mile RWYB day in September.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]If anyone has any contacts I'd definitely be up for it, not fussed where but the more space I have to try getting to the redline in 5th the happier I'd be.[FONT=verdana, geneva"]

We'll have to discuss a group buy for igniters [;)]

We'd beter not try for the magic 200MPH - that target's already allocated [:D] [:D] [:D] [:D] [:D] [:D] [:D] [:D]

Thanks for your interest Paul - All the valves are back in the head now. I was way of base thinking the valve stem oil seals were two piece, they are not! The other part turned out to be the rocker cover bolt gasket!!!

I ended up buying special tool 9225/1 (or something like that) which is a drift bar/depth gauge for knocking on the new stem oil seals. A daunting job as you have to use a hammer to knock them on - the guide and the oil seal are both brass so once you start hammering you're committed!! Luckily I had no miss placed hammer strikes []

So I'm almost on the final straight, just have to set the cams, torque down the head put both manifolds on, injector rail etc, a day's work I think.

Can't wait to drive it, has been standing on my drive since that fateful day in March 2004.
