944 S2 cab wheel compatability

Can anybody advise as to whether 996 17" replica wheels would fit a 944 S2 cab?
Tyre sizes 225/40/17 rear and 215/45/17 front. Currently have 16" 215 rear & 205 front.

Many thanks

From the tyre sizes it sounds like they would, but the only way to be sure is to know the width and offset of the wheels.

Thanks Fen for your advice - I have since, done a lot of research and apparently the wheels from 996,993,968, & Boxters will go straight on.However it is not recommended to put any more than 245 tyres at the rear on a cab 944 ( ok on a 944coupe) apparently the suspension differs & theres a greater likelyhood of the wheel if a 255 ( rear) connecting with the body work when on the move / or if extra weight is carried.

Anna,
I have 17" Turbo Twists on my Cabriolet with 255/40/17 tyres on the back, I have never experienced any contact with the body or suspension components in normal use or laps around Brands Hatch & Oulton Park.

Graeme, thank you for your reasurance. Have spoken to so many peolpe you get to the point of not knowing whats right & wrong .However as you are a 944 cab owner who has first hand experience of these 255, all must be ok. Great, all the more wheels & tyres to choose from now!!!!!! Thank you

Cab suspension is exactly the same as coupe - a cab started out life as a coupe and had the roof cut off by the American Sunroof Company in a purpose built factory. I ran 265/35 18's on the back of my cab for close to 40,000 miles.

Ive got 17" cup 2,s on my 968 cab NO probs,, even had a set of 18" sport classics on in 10" wide rears with no probs....[:D][:D]

944,s + 968 cabs are the same apart from the look...

And the engine, and the gear box, and the door handles, and the mirrors, and the door cards, and the cubby box, and the air bags, and......... the price. [:D]

IIRC to get it exactly right you should use 7mm spacers at the front when using late 911 or Boxster wheels. Hands up how many of us do......that would be none then.

Thank you all for your advice & guidance.
The wheels I have seen are genuine porsche wheels off a Boxter 1999.
Tyre sizes 17" 255/40/Zr 17 rear & 205 /50/Zr 17 front
Offset fronts 55 rears 50.
Will these fit! would I need spacers?if so would these be 7mm front back or both?
This is all new to me so many apologies for the dumb questions! But need to get it right.

I could be wrong about this, but i believe that the '255' refers to the contact footprint, and as different tyre designs work in different ways, the wall to wall measurement for 2 different 255's can be a little different

Matt

As a rule of thumb, all porsche models after 1987 are designed to be the same offset package.

The offset will change with the wheel width in some cases, but as a rule wheels made for a model after 1987 will fit any model after 1987.

But you have to consider wheel widths.... for example, fitting a set of 10J 996 rear wheels onto the front of a boxster isnt ever going to be a good idea.

All the best
